After a walk along the Angus Coast Trail we stopped at this restaurant for a well-deserved meal. The food was very tasteful and nice: we had kedgeree, haddock and a full lobster.Service was very friendly even though we got there 5 minutes before closing time.

We walked from Arbroath to Auchmithie and needed somewhere for lunch. Stopped here and what a surprise for such a small place. It had a log fire burning, the staff were very welcoming and luckily were able to find us a table. This was fine dining, all home cooked at a very affordable price. It not only looked great but tasted great. I has since recommended it to everyone I have told as a place to try if they are in the area. Will definitely be back.

If you're anywhere near this place it is a must try. Food really is next level and the Smokie Pancake is a must.Worth noting I'm not the biggest fan of fish. However I took the leap of faith as recommended by the wonderful host Margo. Blown away, and figuring out how I can get back to the area (I live 500 miles away) to try the rest of the menu.Worth booking I advance as well.

Go eat here, you'll not be disappointed and I recommend the Arbroath smokie pancake for a main, it's truly sublime!

Very fresh seafood on their specials menu and 10/10 service. Their cheese scones are amazing and one of the best I have had (and I have tried the scones in Devon and Cornwall and from afternoon teas in London). Would totally recommend this place.

An overdue visit to Auchmithie just above Arbroath. Stopped in at The But'n'Ben for lunch. It was difficult to choose from the menu as so much choice. I opted for Haddock in batter and my husband for Kedgeree. The food was freshly cooked, well presented and delicious. Large portion of veg in season, chips and new potatoes. Service warm and friendly. The dessert menu was extensive but unfortunately we had no room left following main course. It's worth a walk down to the old harbour and enjoy a walk along the pebble beach. We will be returning to this gem!

We were out last night (7 Feb 20) for a late tea/early supper and a shortish jaunt in my pal's big new hybrid motor vehicle. The sultry close-knit former fishing village of Auchmithie, on the cold North Sea Coast, above Arbroath, awaited our arrival ... we being a boy/girl foursome of experienced, hungry and fussy foodies."Shut that door," Larry-Grayson-like, cried our good-humoured hostess as we entered her deliciously endearing restaurant which was quiet that Friday, unusually, but due to the time of year. Prawn Cocktail for starter was familiar but famous and fine, two Five Star Smokey Pancake Platters, a Crabmeat Concoction and a replete Piping-hot Pot of Haddock and Prawns proved perfect for our mains. Two lovely desserts were shared by all four and this far-from-frugal repast was duly washed down with a pleasant bottle of Prosecco ... Well, we could not have been more surely satisfied with both excellent cheffing and waitressing. With the snug warmth of The House's hearth itself, the village visitors' victory over paid-parking promoters ... and the sheer value for money in the fine feast found that evening, our excursion proved a serendipitous success.
