The Birkhill Inn in Angus

Hadn't been for a while and the steak pie was as good as ever. Service was very quick and efficient, with all the the staff being very pleasant. Looking forward to a return trip.

There are not enough good things I can say about the food here. We went in a party of 5. 3 had the famous steak pie which looked and tasted delicious. Not a touch of fat on the steak. Someone had fish and chips which was a good sized portion and lovely crispy batter. I had black pudding stuffed chicken with peppercorn sauce. Oh! My! Goodness! It was amazing. I was a little cautious as I don't always like peppercorn sauce if it's made too strong. It was perfect. The chicken fell apart at the slightest touch. It was such a good meal.I highly recommend a meal here but book ahead. Its always busy but not crowded.

I appreciate The Birkhill Inn is a firm favourite of many and I don't know if we were just unlucky but we found the food basic and less than mediocre. Service is good, they manage large gatherings well. The 'famous steak pie' - which most of the men in our party ordered - was not as good as a steak pie you'd buy from any decent butchers and cook yourself.

Really nice place but their FAMOUS steak pie wasn't so famous. The pastry was like Frey Bentos tin pie. Personally I prefer puff pastry. Sorry, but won't be back 😟

Good food reasonably priced. Friendly service by efficient staff. Not too busy at lunchtime.

Still doing it after all these years. The steak pie was excellent, as was the sticky toffee pudding. Service was a bit slow at times but we weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a huge problem.

Lovely meal, very well organised. It was extremely busy in the restaurant. All staff were very helpful, they were all following Covid-19 guidelines , they were wearing masks etc. We were a large table of 15. Our meal was all served at the same time. The food was all really good, tasty, well presented & good sized portions. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend. We decided to book up here when we were all staying at Piperdam on a pre Christmas family get together. Growing up in Dundee and having family that stayed in Birkhill we used to go here for meals a lot. I always remember how good it was back then & this visit didn't dissapoint. Glad we booked up here. I would also recommend booking up well in advance during busy times.

Great food and great service.Start to finish we were catered after well and we were impressed as we were a party of around 25.The food is fantastic and the portions large, particularly the steak pie. Meat is of high quality as it comes straight from a local award winning butchers.Highly recommend.

Good wholesome food in nice surroundings. Good price. Although it was very busy it didn't feel that way. It was relaxed. My only complaint is that we were not offered to look at a sweet menu or offered coffee or further drinks. On this occasion it did not matter but it is something I would expect.

Went with 3 friends for their famous steak pie. Although served very quickly, the meal was not what I expected. They have changed the gravy, the veg tasted like frozen peas and carrots, and the chips were very dry n quite burnt. Wont be hurrying back.
