The Islay Hotel in Argyll & Bute

Visited the restaurant for dinner. Good menu. Excellent food.

We ate in the bar and I can recommend the blaggis burger which is haggis, beef and black pudding

Went in for a meal. Good selection on main menu, plus a specials. Six people all enjoyed the meal. Bowl of water supplied for dog without even asking 👍

Didn't stay but visited the restaurant several times. Excellent food and great drink selection, our waitress was super nice.

Luckily it wasn't full when I was there. Staff were very accommodating. Good selection of whiskies, price is a bit higher as it is a hotel. Furnishing can do a bit of work, it feels like a university canteen.

We went in for lunch while visiting distilleries. Good food at reasonable prices. They don't rush you and give you time to enjoy your meal and give you a reasonable break between courses.

Ate here twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast. 5* for dinner, 4* for breakfastBoth times the food was satisfying and flavourful. Pre-dinner we were offered caramelized butter with bread which was an interesting twist.Dinner was satisfying, prices range between 15-30 eur for a main, 8-15 starter. Expected slightly more fish dishes considering its on an island.Service was mostly very courteous and polite even after a huge lockdown period.For breakfast, the price is a bit high considering the portion size, however it is also incredibly filling due to the richness of the haggis and black pudding - though these are not especially expensive items and the breakfast costs 15 for an egg (excellently poached), an Octomore sausage (doesn't taste of whiskey let alone Octomore), a half tomato, a potato scone, a single rasher of bacon, a LARGE slice of black pudding and a large square of haggis.

My husband, our baby and I weren't staying at the hotel but we popped in for breakfast. We would definitely recommend. Food was delicious! My husband had a full cooked and I had the scrambled eggs and salmon. We sat in the bar which looked like it had recently been done up (like the rest of the hotel). Staff were very welcoming and friendly and helped us down the stairs with the pram to the bar.Think we will be back for breakfast tomorrow or maybe lunch/dinner 🤭.

We came here for dinner on our trip to Islay, and it was a lovely experience. It's a lovely hotel and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere about it, with very friendly staff. For dinner we had the Calamari and Crab cakes, followed by a Venison special and Halibut, and the steamed banana and chocolate pudding to finish. All three courses were delicious, with the Venison being the stand out winner. It was very well cooked, and accompanied with a beautiful jus. Our only complaint about the Halibut was it's size. It wasn't a cheap main (about £25) but the size of fish just wasn't enough for the price, and it was accompanied by a bowl of risotto. It just didn't feel enough, however it still tasted fantastic. The desert was lovely, although the peanut butter on the side overpowered the chocolate pudding, which was very tasty. A great meal though and I wouldn't hesitate to come back here, especially as they serve Belhaven Best - something I love to drink when back in Scotland

We had a fantastic stay at the Islay Hotel recently. The rooms were large, clean and well decorated, with lovely toiletries and soft towels.We ate in the restaurant for dinner one night and had a phenomenal meal - both food and service were outstanding.The location was great for walking the Three Distilleries Path, and we had a driver to take us around the other parts of the island the other days we were there.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay on Islay. We'll definitely be back!
