The Lochgair Hotel Restaurant in Argyll & Bute

Deserves much better reviews, from less fuss pots.The hotel is fantastic, as are the staff and the food is excellent and of high quality, I had the steak pie twice.It has a really nice bar with a fire and a good selection of Malts too. I was served each night by Jay, who I was very impressed with, an absolute credit to the industry, service with a smile and very attentive, keeping everything immaculate and even making up brilliant packed lunches for my forthcoming day after I was well watered that evening.The room was clean and tidy with a comfortable bed.If you like cars, speak to the owner, he has a great collection and will speak away about them. He makes a great breakfast and fresh coffee, even giving me one away as I was running late, nice to talk to and helpful.I hardly ever write a review as I am fairy neutral about places, but here I am telling you all about it, I have come away happy and it's nice to support a smaller family owned place.

Have stayed here many times comfortable beds good bar meals and great breakfast.

was staying here for 10 days will working away from home room had ensuite with amazing big bath comfy wee room easy parking loved the fry up every morning owner was nice guy 15 mins from castle were o was working and 7 mile from Lochgilphead beautiful drive up hotel is adequate but homely would definitely stay here again in future

Stayed there for a few nights as it was only thing available at the time. Room's are dated with literally one sheet of plasterboard separating me from room next door. Doesn't help that the owner has dumped his clapped out old Mercedes collection outside, even the barmaid was embarrassed about the state of the place. Windows held together with polyfilla and angle brackets.Quite an embarrassment to be brutally honest and needs to be renovated asap....shame as it has potential to be a really nice hotel in one of, if not the best places in the world for the scenery.If I could afford it I'd definately buy this hotel and bring it up to scratch.

A complete nightmare. Do not stay here under any circumstances. Sleep under a bush instead. Not fit for human habitation. Hotel is reminiscent of a building in a war zone, including blown out windows. One person is receptionist, cook, barman and chamber-maid, notice I didn't mention cleaner - you get the picture. To add insult to injury we were tricked into paying for 2 nights at check out instead of the one we actually managed to survive. This is a well-rehearsed scam....

Overnight stop on the way to the Islay ferry. Perfect little hotel. Not posh, certainly not boutique, but just what you need. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Lovely whiskey bar.

rude owner of the hotel, very disrespectful to me and my grandmother when looking for food after breaking down for 4 hours outside his hotel he never even bothered to make eye contact when speaking and rushed away the hotel was stinking of old musty garage only upside to that hotel is the exit (which btw could go with some wd40 on the hinge)ps. spoke to the chef beforehand he was very polite and understanding great guy!

Didn't have the pleasure of staying here but did recently have car troubles outside it and had a less than friendly reception.Was provided with access to the WiFi, thank you for that, but was made clear this would be only assistance offered.After waiting with car in the cold and wet for just short of a hour went back across the road to try and buy a coffee only to find the door locked and the owner apparently unwilling to answer it, could be seen walking about in the back!Not the friendly approach you would normally expect but have been informed by acquaintances in the area that this is sadly how this establishment tends to treat visitors.

I stayed here for a month and find the hosts fantastic, accommodating and friendly. I was even given a front door key as I was traveling frequently to Glasgow and got back late at night!!!! They have vegetarian options for dinner and a help yourself breakfast. The chef is really nice and provides extremely tasty food. The rooms are comfortable and even though it is on the main road you fall asleep...This is the exact middle point between Campbeltown and Glasgow!
