The Copper Beech Cafe at The Black Watch Castle & Museum in Perth & Kinross

Bigger than it looks. The cafe is excellent, the museum is invaluable, the shop is good. Not too many people seem to visit - but they should. The museum goes through 300 years of history thouroughly but enjoyably through memorabilia. Detailed descriptions - huge plus!

Such a rich history! Take the guided tour it’s worth it. A family member was with the Black Watch in WWII , they took us to the archives upstairs to find personal references of commissioned ranks! A must to see if you are into history.

Lovely building in a Scots Baronial style, Balhousie Castle is the Regimental Headquarters of The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 SCOTS) and has some fantastic galleries and exhibitions within, including eight Victoria Crosses and the stories of them.There's also a very poignant reflection room with names on the wall of all the fallen men of the Black Watch that can easily bring a tear to an eye.Right now they have a secondary exhibition on entwined with the normal galleries of various models of Scottish buildings and articles of a Scottish nature built out of lego.A large, bright and airy cafe that seemed very popular and, although we didn't eat there, the smells of the food went round my heart like a hairy worm.A must visit if you're in Perth or indeed if you live in Perth and have never been.Nemo me impune lacessit

This museum is well worth a visit. Lots of information and artefacts. Lovely staff. Very accessible with a lift and disabled toilets.

This is a lovely place. We booked online the night before and had no issues entering the next day. We entered the shop and was greeted by two members of staff, who were really nice and welcoming. I gave them my name and they ticked us off the list. The man who worked there gave us a map and information on the museum before we entered. He was lovely and very helpful. When we entered the museum we were greeted by a 6 minute video discussing the history of the Black Watch uniforms. We then made our way around all the different rooms. There is lots of information about the history of the Black Watch as well as memorabilia to look at. It took us a good hour to get round after reading all the information in each room. By the time we came out, it had started raining, so we decided to go for a coffee in the cafe. We were greeted by a lady who said all the tables were fully booked up but she would see what she could do. She set us up a table that wasn't being used, which was really good. We only stopped for a drink. At this point it was hammering it down with rain and water was leaking through the cafe ceiling. I told one of the waitresses it was leaking and she just grunted at me and walked off. So on my way out, I told the lady who seated us and she was thankful that I told her and she was going to sort it out. Overall, it's a really good visit and definitely worth the time to go and see. The museum bit isnt really good for very young children as they wouldn't find it interesting but there is a park right next door. Only reason I have given it 4 stars and not 5 is because we didn't feel the cafe staff were as friendly and welcoming as the museum and shop staff.

Excellently curated museum, so much to learn and an impressive journey through the Black Watch history.Also a very good shop and cafe attached and a great location next to a public park.Highly recommended.

Interesting history of the Black Watch since its inception to present. Lots of displays and historical pictures including uniforms and weapons. Certainly a must see if you are in Perth. Friendly staff and there is a restaurant there as well. Be aware that there is free parking for the museum but that you have to drive through a pay and display park to get to it. Once parked remember to give your car rego to the desk so they know.
