We used to do a fair bit of weekend grocery shopping here, but no more. Last Sunday we bought a beef stroganoff with a use by date of the following Wednesday. When we took it out to cook for dinner on Monday (the next day) however we noticed that a mouldy fuzz was growing over the surface of the food. Had we missed it and gone onto eat the meal, we would undoubtedly have been very ill. Had my 82 year old mother been joining us as she often does, the consequences could have been serious. I complained and sent pics of the meal. After two days, a reply came saying they would 'send onto the butcher and get back to me'. More than a week later and still not so much as an apology, let alone a follow up. Shocking customer service. If you do buy food from here, check it very carefully before you cook and eat.

Delicious food, super lovely staff, dog friendly, and a beautiful view. What could be better?

Taking a sabbatical week away from FVSR, I dropped into The Smiddy with “She who must be obeyed” (‘er indoors for my fan in South London) to have a spot of lunch and sample what Micky Flanagan calls the ombeeongss. We were glad to have done so. Just before lunchtime the atmosphere was very pleasant, relaxed and informal. We both opted for the burger and chips. Normally you’ld require a stout hammer and a cold chisel to separate Mrs Scone from her beloved macaroni, but she ventured out on a limb and was not disappointed. We both enjoyed the thrice-cooked chips, and the burger required both hands and the gape of a Reticulated Python. Delicious though, so we’ll done, Smiddy.I followed on with a coffee and jammy cream scone. Sadly, though the scone was well baked and easy to eat, it came served with aerosol cream. You can understand why they do that, but you can’t forgive!Service was quick and very friendly. The rest of the establishment is a pleasant shopping experience though you require a bank balance the size of a small European nation to buy anything. I spotted a packet of 20 tea bags at almost a fiver. ‘Nuff said.

Lovely farm shop and facilities, lovely toilets but shame cafe doesn't serve more of the produce from the farm shop. I would love to have tried a scotch pie or sausage roll from the farm shop, but not available in the cafe hot. They have a van outside in the carpark where I got a lorne sausage bap which was top class 👌🏻

Went for lunch yesterday with my Wife I've been 5 times to the Smiddy and enjoyed it , but yesterday in the restaurant there were 6 dogs I know it's the trend now as people are obsessed with thier pets nowadays.. but I don't think it's right to have animals in restaurants that's just me , I also noticed some of the waitresses pet the animals on passing then serving plates of food...I won't be back I'm afraid .

An amazing selection of quality farm produce, supplemented by a wide array of culinary products. If you like to bake bread, the range of flours available is astounding. Beautifully organised, spotlessly clean, very helpful and attentive staff.Don't miss the pies and pasties, the finest we have sampled in many a year. There's also a great selection of gifts, pet food and toys.I travelled from Glasgow for a visit and was not disappointed. I'll be back ☺️

A high quality farm shop, cafe, knicknackery and butchers. Usual farm shop fare, with nice baked goods and high quality meats. Prices about as steep as one would expect (no worse than a large chain garden centre). Takeaway option outside was delicious but exceptionally slow. Could do with a bit of extra support or training for the Saturday staff running the Smiddy Express to help aleiviate the wait.
