Cookhouse & Pub in Amber Valley

Visited the restaurant with relatives from Scotland looking forward to a nice meal. I had visited the restaurant a few times before with out a problem, great welcome from the receptionist taken to a table ordered our drinks which came very promptly, ordered our meals which once again arrived promptly, by a very nice waitress. My sister in law had ordered fish and chips with mushy peas, on first account they looked delicious, but when looking close the chips looked like they had been cooked at least four times and the fish the same the batter was so hard you couldn’t cut through it!, the mushy peas had a dry skin over them like they been under the hot lights far too long. We did complain and the meal was removed and deducted from the bill and a dish of complementary chips, offered she did not order another meal had the experience had put her off. An apology was given by the duty manager but we had to go looking for her!. Not a very good experience.

Run of the mill chain place next to a Premier Inn, petrol station etc. Service was friendly and the food was OK but we had to complain about the dealthy cold chips. They did bring us both a fresh bowl each but we'd finished our burger by then so although hot and tasty, the shine had gone off them somewhat. If you just want to eat and run its ideal but I wouldn't recommend for anything other than a quick and convenient feed.

My wife and I had our wedding reception/ meal here, there was over 30 of us and the team was amazing couldn't of done enough for us very friendly and patient with everyone, all the food came out at the right times and cooked beautifully , my wife and I was even given a Complimentary bottle of champagne and due to my wife being pregnant they also made her a Mocktail ! Thank you so much to all the team for making our wedding reception/meal special.

Hit and miss in the early days when it opened as a Cookhouse & Pub, but seems to have established itself over time. The main menu is reasonably priced for what you get, and the daytime value menu (Mon to Fri, 12 till 6) is fantastic for the price at £8.99 for 2 selected mains. Best to book if you can, but they do their best to accommodate walk ins where possible. Staff are friendly and professional, although sometimes you get the feeling they are a bit thin on the ground at times in terms of staffing. Wait times for food can be a bit longer than you'd expect, especially when busy but don't mind this as food is usually spot on when brought out. The interiour itself is light and airy and feels modern. Their Sunday carvery is amazing and best in the area in my opinion for the price; gets busy on Sunday lunchtime and it's not hard to see why. Main menu also served on a Sunday too which is nice considering most restaurants serve roasts only on this day. Large car park, so no issues in this respect.

One of the best carvery I have had in a long time. Service was excellent, drinks came within two minutes. Recommend eating here food Service and atmosphere brilliant. 5 stars all day long. Keep up the excellent work.

Cheap but you get what you pay for. Went for the Sunday carvery, everything is frozen and in some cases tastes like it still is. Meat was inedible. Only good thing was the service which was fast and cheery.

Been here many times, never had any problems, food is always decent, staff are friendly

Lovely food, came out hot and fresh.The reason for only 4 stars are there was no choice on the children's menu fir my daughter who is dairy and gluten intolerant.We had to order her chicken from the adults menu, which she enjoyed but again there were very limited choices for her there either.The menu is not very clear on dairy or gluten free options. Most establishments now have this on their menus, especially since Natasha's law was introduced.

Christmas Day carvery, fantastic meal. Food was brilliant, service fantastic and the staff were brilliant too. Will be booking again next week. Well done 👍
