Makeney Hall Restaurant in Amber Valley

Our first time at makeney hall hotel and it was amazing from start to finish. We opted for a suite (room 20), fabulously spacious, clean and elegantly decorated. The views over the gardens were beautiful. The staff are really friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely, setting was stunning and theres plenty to do close by. We can't wait to return

I think it was room 14 which you need to sort the noise problem out BIG TIME. It's a roof fan right outside the window and it runs constantly and the staff won't do anything about it. They moved us to the courtyard in the end and instead we had to put up with the most annoying fountain trickling and gurgling away whilst we were trying to sleep. Rooms weren't very clean but the staff seemed polite enough. They got the (rather expensive) meals wrong too and we could tell they did the same to other ppl who were in the restaurant. Must admit the grounds were quite nice tho. Didn't sleep a wink so total waste of time and money.

Went on a bargain break which was fantastic value. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast and evening meal were served in a lovely conservatory extension and the food was extremely enjoyable. Overall this was a fantastic break and would highly recommend this hotel ! Did not serve lunch but it is very close to other quality eating establishments. We ate at The Bridge and would also recommend.

We had a great DBB through travel zoo. Was absolutely worth the money. Staff were fabulous and gave us a free room upgrade to a suite as was my birthday, also 2 glasses of bubble on the house and decorated my dessert with happy birthday in chocolate. Was a beautiful huge room, I would say only negatives are that there wasn't a phone in the room so couldn't ask for anything for room service. Could do with few more T Bags and milk and some little biscuits, just the little touches and it would have been 5*. Would definitely come back. The food by the way was excellent.

We went for a two day stay with a Groupon voucher, we payed for an upgrade to a suite. The room was really nice with a separate seating area, and added bonus of a sauna downstairs. Breakfast and evening meal were amazing, staff couldn't do enough, they gave us a bottle of bubbly as it was my husbands birthday.Dean who checked us in even took some time the following day to show us some of the rooms being renovated. Would definitely go back.

The buildings and settings are beautiful, the drawing room downstairs is one of the nicest places in Derbyshire to sit and have a drink in the evening. The room we had in the main building was warm and lovely. I was surprised they cut costs in some odd places - breakfast for example they serve instant coffee, when I’m paying over £100 per night I expect to at least have filter! The cooked breakfast was also low quality as were toiletries. These little things are prob more important than they think (at least for people like me who like to have a decent brekkie in the morning). If they can sort this out, would deffo be back

This was our fourth stay here and it is just glorious. The place is beautiful. Friendly staff, huge bedrooms and beds amazing views and the best pub in the country a 5 min walk away called the Holly bush inn.

Beautiful setting with a clean and comfortable room. Great quality breakfast and dinner menu served by friendly and attentive staff. Would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again

Lovely old building with an amazing hotel. The staff (mostly) are brilliant and try to please. The place is a little run down and needing modernisation, but this just adds to the charm. A shout out to JJ the bar man, who re-opened the bar for us. Interestingly the night manager tried to smoke us to death by lighting the fire and not turning the fan on, amazed the place didn't burn down.

The hotel is a bit dated and though comfortable, it could do with a face lift. Friendly staff and the food is generally good. Nice location and settling. Again the bedroom decor could do with modernising and the central heating was a bit noisy.
