The Bear Inn in Amber Valley

Called in for a drink and snacks today.Lovely staff and the Inch’s Cider Is lovely.Ordered a ham salad sandwich and cheesy chips .The ham was packet ham on a brioche burger bun with a bit of iceberg lettuce and an unripe tomato. The chips were microwaved to reheat and melt the cheese!I would come back for a cider but the food doesn’t say come back!I appreciate that they are working from a temporary kitchen but given there were just 2 choices of sandwich, garlic bread and chips on the menu you would’ve thought they could’ve got them right and more memorable.Such a shame.Sorry.Just to add to review after owner’s response, my husband paid at the bar and wasn’t asked if the food was ok unfortunately or we would’ve happily given feedback!We live locally and support local businesses which is why we visited!Good luck with your new venture, as I said we will happily visit for a cider at some point in the future.

Just called in for a drink after a walk. Sat in the garden which has some beautiful views, sadly a large part of the view has been obscured by holiday cottages. They had a local gluten free draught beer which was great for me.

We have all been to places where they state home cooking & been served mass produced gastrofood, The Bear served truly honest home cooked food, triple cooked chips were proper home cooked of the type your mum gave you, the lasagne was the best I have ever eaten, truly fantastic food, atmosphere & service, fantastic old pub steeped with history and cannot recomend it enough, an absolute gem.

Amazing. The atmosphere is superb. Lovely friendly family pub. The 1st time we have been for years but will definitely make this our local. The food was gorgeous too. Lovely evening well done to all the staff.

Lovely friendly dog friendly pub! Nice food, great beers, friendly staff… what’s not to like!The burger was fantastic, really tasty, far from the average pub burger. We’ll be back for certain!

Went to the bear inn yesterday , very warm welcome by the owners , had soup and rustic bread which was delicious can’t wait for the kitchens to open next month , always been a great pub with great atmosphere , I’ve been to the bear for many years, in a fantastic area of Derbyshire , hope the new owners are very happy to be there , I’m sure it will be a great success !!! Brilliant !

Fabulous pub, full of history, landlady was wonderful, our Dog peggy had a great time with Ivy and we all felt incredibly welcome. A proper local pub with great people in. Can't wait to visit again soon for food!

We went to the Bear last Sunday Lunch and had a fabulous drink with our friends. What a great job the new landlords have done with the place, it still has its old worldy atmosphere but much smarter following the refurbishment. We had a few great pints and hot pies which were a meal in them selves. We will be visiting again this weekend and cannot wait until the kitchen is completed and we can have a full sit down meal. Than you for the friendly welcome the staff made us feel so welcome, well done everyone and keep up the great work.

So pleased to see the Bear back open again. A lot of effort has clearly been put in to create a relaxing atmosphere, great beer, and lovely staff, can't wait for the kitchen to open in February

I've always loved the bear many good times I've had here and it's a lovely place to stay lovely well appointed rooms and quiet off the beaten track, reminds me of inns where I come from on North York moors bit like the old salters gate at devil's elbow now derelict, sadly. The bear is a very old atmospheric Inn all original features great atmosphere with its low ceilings and large log fires snug and enviting both of us were here meeting friends, we are both pleased it's reopened well worth a visit we'll stocked bar and eating space staff are wonderful, it's our friends first week working here too, and it's been lovely to support her, Helen your an exellent bar maid!!! Lovely friendly atmosphere and welcoming new owners too can't wait to come again thankyou for a lovely night from us both.
