In the first place we chose Royal Hotel however we were transferred to Grand Hotel.I was not pleased regarding unfavorable reviews but I thought we will try. And what a great surprise. Most areas appeared to be newly decorated. The foyer and ballroom were nice. Our room was very clean and fresh. We had a iron, iron board, fan, hairdryer, extra pillows, bathrobs and slippers. Also bars of soap, gel in dispenser, but no shampoo however considering the room price that was fine.Plus food was good. Would fill you up.And of course staff was friendly and nice.We cannot complain, honestly.

We liked our stay at the Grand. Most areas appeared to be newly decorated and they have lovely velvet sofas in the shared common areas. Excellent service at check in and tasty buffet breakfast. Our standard room was fine, very clean, kettle, hairdryer, iron and sanitized TV remote. Bars of soap, no shampoo but that's fine considering the room price. The foyer and ballroom were lovely, the terrace is a bit shabby but has fabulous views. Considering the immense upkeep of this historical hotel I think Brittania are doing a good job of turning things around and hopefully banish those negative reviews for good. Paid £39 for a Thurs night, breakfast £7.50 each.

The Grand is a Beautiful building, steeped in historical value. The original grandeur of this building has not been lost with time. Our room was well equipped, clean and practical. The shower was powerful and we had a sea view. The staff were friendly and helpful.Breakfast was plentiful. The hotel is going through huge regeneration so patience is required as this is not a quick job.Remember where you are, and who has walked before you as you descend the great staircase!Incredibly good value for money. Will definitely be back again.

You have to appreciate the history of this amazing building. It is very old, but beautiful. Rooms are a little dated, but clean and the beds were very comfortable. Shower was hot. This building is 154 years old and is going through a continuous refurbishment on a grand scale. We found the staff helpful and pleasant at all times.Would we stay again.. Definitely..

I was fortunate to get an upgrade to a lovely room overlooking the beach. Was originally in a basement room without a window, depressing and problematic. Mark, one of the managers who did this was wonderful. He completely transformed my stay for the better. The hotel has tons of history and still beautiful in its own way. Just needs some proper love! The food was poor, even very simple stuff. But the location is fabulous with loads of good restaurants and cafes around. Weekends the hotel is full of characters. Quite an experience and will wonder why you thought you had a drink problem. By comparison

The location of this hotel is second to none and it looks quite beautiful until you get into your personal rooms. My room was very small and I was 8 floors away from the rest of my party who booked together. However I was thankful that I was on floor 5 rather than basement 3 as the corridors and rooms smelt like smoke. The windows didn't stay open and the whole hotel was freezing on a night - in the entertainment room, people were wearing their coats!!

Had a fantastic stay, by far the best building in Scarborough although, the decor is dated and could do with a spuce up the history of the building is magnificent and well worth a visit. The room had an amazing sea view and so do many of the function rooms. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. My husband and I had an afternoon tea there and I couldn’t fault it. Emma was a fantastic hostess and went above and beyond to ensure our experience was special so, a big thank you to her, a real asset to the Britannia hotel chain. Thanks again and we will return.

Great price, we had a nice sized family room with a window overlooking the car park. I know a lot of the rooms don’t have windows so it maybe have been different if we did not have a window. But overall we enjoyed our stay. The mattresses and pillows were very tough. Resulting in me not a having a good night sleep and a bad back in the morning. The rest of the family slept ok so can’t complain. Great evening entertainment In the cabaret bar. We did have a long wait for check in but I think that was mainly down to guests not having the correct documents to hand. Once we were at the front it only took a couple of minutes. Would definitely stop again , cheap and cheerful 😊

Read some of the reviews regarding the Grand Hotel. What a load of rubbish. Me and my wife have been staying there for years and we have never had a bad stay. ALL THE STAFF are brilliant. They have always been considerate, friendly and courteous. They have always gone out of their way to help with whatever we wanted. Yes, some of the rooms needed refurbishment and they have been done. Would stay there anytime, whatever the weather.
