Cauldwells Mill in Derbyshire Dales

This place is worth a visit for the vegetarian café alone. Super-tasty food in very generous portions at reasonable prices, and with a great view of green fields and hills. It's just off the A6 in Rowsley.The gift shop isn't as good as it used to be but it still has an excellent array of birthday cards. There's a smithy and a few artisan craft shops selling jewellery, stained glass and art prints. There's also a shop selling different varieties of flour milled on site.The mill itself is normally open for you to look round (for free) and there are also some interesting looking geese and ducks bobbing around on the water.Various paths lead round the building so you can see the water wheel turning, but just make sure you keep hold of small children near the water as it's deep.

Cafe has now revamped and changed owners. The old cafe was superb. The huge amazing healthy salads of old are now scaled back to less than half . The winter menu is currently all bread or pastry based with smaller side salad or soup . Cakes nowhere near the amazing standard of old .The Homity pie portion and quiche is now a bit of a joke compared to the old one. More like an individual tart .What it does serve is ok and I've eaten at a lot worse places but very disappointed that they have destroyed the very popular dishes this cafe was famous for . 😭😭

Miserable service at the cafe. They got our order wrong several times. No effort to check that the meals were vegan (although we asked several times) which is astounding for a veggie cafe you’d expect at least half the menu to be vegan. They couldn’t care less.

The shop is lovely but cafe a bid disappointment. We have been going for years and years but the new owners have spoilt it completely . A very poor menu and the changes in seating awful . It was always our favourite cafy but not now

Excellent vegetarian cafe, decent gift shops & a working flour mill you can wonder around. Also a walk along the river (when the weather is decent or you're wearing decent walking boots for wet weather, soggy grass...

I can understand that you had to make changes to the café, to meet the requirements of the pandemic, but I am afraid that you have done yourselves a great dis-service. Of course your food offerings must be varied, but some of the items, such as homity pie, were on the menu for a long time for one reason - they were popular! The menu options now seem to be far fewer than in previous years; and the range of homemade cakes has disappeared, to be replaced by a selection of bland traybakes. You are a vegetarian cafe, but can you cater for vegans and coeliacs? Coming to eat here in the past was like eating in a friend's house - now it just feels like an ordinary café set in a stunning location. Sorry, but you have lost a lot of brownie points from this customer.

Cafe has changed hands. Food is not a patch on what it used to be. At best it’s average now and much more limited choice. The wonderful cakes are no more. Disappointed ☹️Staff are lovely though.Mill is still a super place.

Used to love this cafe. Today the drinks were good but the service was really slow. It's still in a beautiful location but now the church pews have gone it's a lot less interesting inside.

We love this place, great walk around and view the mill in operation, enjoy the shops and artists being creative. The cafe is great with lovely choices. A must visit! Then just sit around the grounds and watch the river flow and just chill.

Second time I've stopped in the cafe here recently on my cycles around Derbyshire. A lovely vegetarian cafe. Enjoyed the nut and mushroom pate for lunch today. Previously enjoyed one of the fruit scones. Well worth a visit...
