We popped in on bank holiday Monday for Lunch and had a very warm and friendly welcome. We hadn’t booked but they found us a table. Has a gorgeous lunch that was extremely tasty (triple cooked chips 🤤). Service was excellent and quick. Will definitely go back.

The food was above exceptional and the staff pleasant and attentive. On the flip side, a 250ml glass of wine at £12.50 and a pint of Guinness at £5 was definitely OTT. If the drinks had been realistically priced then a 5* rating would have been thoroughly deserved.

Excellent food in a cozy pub with professional and friendly staff. Both evening meal and breakfast were faultless. The room in a neighbouring cottage was very comfortable and clean. A perfect village setting surrounded by beautiful countryside just a few minutes from Chatsworth. Highly recommended.

We had originally booked a meal for a party of 6 at noon, but had to reschedule to the evening which they were happy to accommodate. The service was okay, the waiting staff seemed like they had clocked out for the day and were going through the motions, not particularly OTT friendly, but not wholeheartedly welcoming, either. The food wasn't mind blowing, and you can see why it's in the guide but has yet to make a star. The devil's in the details and stiff pads of single serve butter, slices of bread that weren't warm for the chicken liver pâté, room temperature mash, serving bottles of wine without actually serving customers (and also not giving a towel along with the ice bucket), lack luster battering of the fish and chips (I've had better at my local, in-land chippy), and putting focaccia on the menu but serving normal bread that hadn't even grazed an olive (which is particularly irksome) are what brought the experience down a notch for me. I highly recommend the parmesan and truffle chips though, as well as the beef fillet, which were both really good. I loved the pâté/parfait, and you got a hefty serving of the good stuff, but the other things served with it brought it all down for me (cold bread and firm butter as I mentioned before) the bread to pâté ratio was way off. The fillet was nice and tender and the peppercorn dressing was a hit for the meat eaters at the table.

We hadn't booked in advance but they fitted us into the brasserie. There was a choice of a lunch menu with starter, main and dessert (you didn't have to have all three 😀) or a sandwiches /light bites menu. We had the burger with triple cooked chips and a ploughman's lunch. The burger was good quality and the chips were crisp and dry. There was plenty of cheese with the ploughman's as well as pork pie and good quality ham. Prices were on the higher side (£16 burger. £12 ploughman's). However, the quality warranted it. Toilets were spotlessly clean and there was also an accessible toilet. There were a couple of steps leading from the bar into the brasserie. Really helpful and friendly staff.

Lovely room and friendly staff. Food was excellent with a very generous breakfast giving lots of choice. Pub had a relaxed atmosphere with a welcome log fire going.

We had excellent room not in the inn but a short walk away. The room was well worth it the bath the biggest I have had anywhere. The evening meals were top of the range it might be one of the Devonshire inns but the food was as good as their hotels. Only down side with being away from Inn it was dark (luckily I had a torch with me ) so getting about was a bit tricky. Well done

We spent 24/25/26th December here and it was superb. We were with my in laws and as we had a dog we were in a cottage next door to the pub in Water Cum Jolly Dale. We were a little disappointed we didn’t have anything for the dog in our room like the bed on their Instagram or treats - our dog has 13k followers on Instagram so they missed a photo opportunity there! We really liked our room though it was comfortable and quiet and the bathroom was huge. My family over the road had a suite, it was a little run down and poorly lit. They are elderly and there were lots of stairs - the bathroom was tricky - but it grew on them as we stayed and they managed. I have to say everything about this trip was perfect for me. The first thing I’d like to mention is the staff - despite covid, staff shortages due to Christmas and isolation you would never have known. The food was top notch, top quality and delicious. Christmas lunch was sensational....Faultless! Thank you so much for your hard work and looking after us. Breakfast was sensational and as good as high end venues in London. The avocado on sourdough with eggs was beautiful. We really did have a wonderful stay, thank you. We will be back again soon!

We have been coming to this pub for 20 plus years, today we were left totally disappointed we ordered the turkey main meal, it took ages to arrive, even though we were one of the earliest tables to arrive. The meal arrived cold, and the content on the plate for the cost of £19 was frankly a joke! It's sad to experience the pub we have loved so much turn into an overpriced, out classed, establishment that smaller more customer focused venue's now beat hands down. So sad!

In the winter sitting in the old pub by the fire is much nicer than the orangerie, although I'd switch that in the summer. Lovely service and great food including lots of local produce, the cod was especially delicious 😋
