Le Mistral in Derbyshire Dales

Booked for 7.30, by 8.00 nobody had been to take even a drinks order so I went upstairs to chase. Waitress/manageress(?) said 'he's down there now'. No apology/explanation. We ordered, we waited. 8.45pm I went upstairs again to enquire about our food. 'It's coming now' says waitress lady. As I went to go back to our table from the kitchen a voice shouted 'there are other people in the restaurant love!'. I turned back and said 'I beg your pardon'. Chef reiterates that they have others to serve, I point out we've been waiting an hour and 15 minutes. A bit of arguing ensues with me saying an apology or explanation would have gone a long way. 'I'm f**king apologising now aren't I' says chef!! Food was OK. We didn't order dessert. The bill was discounted, a nice gesture BUT if you're short staffed/over booked apologise IN ADVANCE, offer some bread while customers wait, a complimentary glass of wine or something. Then customers won't have such a bitter taste in their mouths.

Very tasty steak and ale pie with a medley of vegetables. Burger was disappointing. Maybe buy burgers from that great butchers shop just a few doors away? Very pleasant and attentive staff.

Very cosy attractive dining areas with superb service. Food was excellent for 2 members of our party but third not quite as pleased. Deserts and coffee very good. Enjoyed eating here very much. Did not give 5* as slightly expensive (but may be prices for this area- first evening here). Would recommend.

It's been a number of years since we last visited (I wonder why?)We met family for an early evening meal and it was fab!! The atmosphere and ambiance was still the same but also felt safe for those still a little COVID concerned.Service was great and the menu was more extensive than I had expected with a good range of veggie and carnivore options 😊We had a range of meals between us with every one being tasty and well presented...I can't find fault so it's got to be 5* but next time I want to be back in the cellar🤣

Lovely as always, the perfect relaxing atmosphere for a Birthday meal. Superb food and service!

We went here just last night and it was brilliant. We had the pork and lamb shank and it was some of the tastiest food I have ever had, service was superb and everyone was really friendly. Also one of the staff recommended going to the featherstar bar which is part of the red lion hotel. Great tip, such a cool and quirky bar. I highly recommend this restaurant

Absolutely loved both our visits, lunch and then dinner the following evening. Fabulous menu including for vegetarians. Light lunch of omelette, salad and frites was beautifully cooked and presented and tasted amazing. Fantastic value.Dinner was, for us ,3 courses all again full of flavour, piping hot and delicious. The beetroot and goats cheese tart was amazing and the creme burley one of the best I've had, including in France! House wine was reasonably priced and lovely.Service, atmosphere and friendliness of the staff was first class on both occasions.Thank you Le Mistral

Well worth visiting wirksworth for. Book early to avoid disappointment. Downstairs is stunning too.a real gem with friendly, welcoming staff. Hard to park tho

Lovely French restaurant in Wirksworth with hidden downstairs space kitted out with fairy lights and lots of brick to feel warm and inviting. The staff are friendly and efficient. The food is delicious and what I think of as 'real food' using proper fresh ingredients. There are also good vegetarian options which is not a given for French cuisine. The staff are very helpful if you have any allergies. The downstairs space is accessed by stair only and includes the restroom. I think the ground floor would be able to accommodate a wheelchair.
