Original Bakewell Pudding Shop in Derbyshire Dales

I have a feeling there are better bakewell pudding and tart places however the idea that this is the original is interesting. We had one of each traditional bakewell. Staff quite to the point and not as warm as you’d expect in a place like this. Seating upstairs is plenty. Chocolate tray bake was absolute rubbish. Very expensive generally.

When in Bakewell, one must try the famous pudding (and perhaps a sandwich too)!We got the one to share which is a very generous size for two. Served warm with custard or cream - such a comforting dessert with fresh berries on a mild day. My partner also ordered a ham sandwich with chips so we couldn't finish the pudding sadly. I much prefer this to the tart! Don't miss out on this.Friendly and welcoming staff. This sit down restaurant on the first floor has plenty of tables to accommodate visitors and you can buy a pastry to take home as well.

When in Rome! Incredibly tasty and original recipes, friendly staff and a welcoming shop. Great place to experience the original.

The food, the cappuccinos and Bakewell pudding where great. However, they did miss some of our order items and it delayed us eating together.

If you go to Bakewell then you have to get a Bakewell pudding, and of you get a Bakewell pudding then you have to get it from the original.Yes they may not be cheap but you pay for the quality. Absolutely amazing puddings. Quite simply the best you'll ever taste.They do other stuff too but no one cares about that, it's all about the puddings.It does get a little busy but that's only because they serve a piece of heaven in pudding form.

Horribly sweet and sickly. Far, far too much sugar, it's just syrup on the base. Not edible. I actually have a sweet tooth!Was looking forward to eating this. Had this delivered and followed all the instructions.The colour and the bake was how it is in the picture when delivered. What a waste of money. Very expensive for what it is.

Delicious Bakewell tart and pudding, probably the best in Bakewell! Lovely little quaint cottage style cafe with helpful, friendly staff.

The local man in the shop buying at the same time as me said "If you only come this way once you've got to have the Bakewell pudding. Serve it warm with pouring cream." It didn't last that long, it was gone on the walk back to Buxton. After having the pudding, I'll never go back to the tart again. Fabulous treat everyone should try.

The home of the Bakewell Tart. A great wee cafe/restaurant. Stopped for lunch.Had a lunch. Everything tasted freshly made and I don't usually like Bakewell cakes from the shops but this one was completely different. One of the nicest ones I have had.All the food was great and service was fast and polite despite it being very busy. There is a wee shop/bakery on the ground floor as well.Defiantly should try to visit.

We specifically visited the Original Shop to taste the Bakewell Tart and Pudding which we had heard was made fresh daily. We were seated straight away and the staff worked really hard considering how busy it was to be served within a reasonable time. Was not disappointed as they were really tasty, we had 2 cappuccino's to go with our cakes which were also really nice. The shop downstairs had various products at very reasonable prices, I would recommend the clotted cream fudge and the Lemon drizzle cake. I am sure the other items would have tasted just as good!! I cannot understand when people moan about the cost, look at the quality of the produce that is served!! Will recommend a visit and try their lovely products.
