Red Lion Inn in Derbyshire Dales

Dropped in here during a walk around Carsington Water. It's dog friendly and has a nice, traditional atmosphere (no TV or gaming machines, excellent). The landlord seemed to be having an off day from our perspective. We weren't greeted on arrival and had to source our own menus which seemed to annoy him. The food took a while to come but was very nice as was the well kept ale. All in all, a good lunch which would have been better with a warmer welcome.

The most amazing Sunday lunch we've had in a long time!! Beautifully cooked rare beef, at least 5 different veg, extra gravy as asked for, all served with a smile. Very reasonable price too. Would highly recommend

I've driven past this pub a few times and always thought that i would like to visit. I took my partner here today for a valentines lunch and was not disappointed. Beautiful and traditional inside, had the haddock and chips and it was very good, also loved the pea puree.Unlike other pubs around the area, this was open on a Monday afternoon.

New years day at red lion has become a family tradition. Great beer, Morris dancers it is blooming fantastic. Do come next year and enjoy. You won't be disappointed.

Really delicious food, I had the hake and my wife had the steak pie. All of the food was delicious, I particularly liked my dessert.

Friendly bar staff in cosy village pub who welcomed us in even with our muddy boots and trousers. Only one vegan main dish (vegan burger) but they kindly also made up a cauliflower bhaji starter as a baguette which was delicious. Wonderful Cloud Hen beer that tasted how I’d expect Harry Potter butter beer!

We went in just before the kitchen was supposed to close for lunch, the staff were very friendly and offered to keep the kitchen open. We instead returned when they reopened for dinner.My fish and chips was not great if I'm honest, very greasy with oil pooling in the plate. The batter was burnt, and the fish chewy due to it being over done. The chips were not any better, they absorbed some of the oil dripping from the fish, so were very greasy. The tarter sauce was obviously not ready made which was a nice touch and the peas were okay, if not slightly strange in taste.I would not recommend visiting for food as it was very poorly made, but if you're visiting for a drink the staff were very friendly with good service its a nice pub at a good location near the Carsington reservoir, with lovely walks in the area.

Awful service with weird, grumpy owners and bar staff. Walked in this lunchtime to have the barman surprised that we wanted food and was rude (as also agreed from rest of the table) when asking if we get drinks from the bar or order from the table.Asking for anything a little different like “oat” or “soya” milk is met with a look of distain.Food poor to average (better food in the evening) and wait time is very long. Children are scowled at so beware. Won’t miss this place one bit. Very disappointed.

Fantastic food, great lager. Lovely owners and a lovely place to spend an afternoon or three. Highly recommended a little gem in the slice of heaven we call home.
