The menu is a classic pub menu with lots of hidden gems. The meals were well presented and choice of vegetables or salad and potatoes or chips. The service was good and very friendly polite staff. The choices of beer is excellent. We had booked elsewhere in the village but they could not guarantee food. May have originally been my 2nd choice. Now this is my 1st choice!!!!

Called at the Ashford arms on our way home from walking in the Dales. We both ordered steak & chips with salad . Very welcoming, good service, excellent food & probably the best chips I've ever had. Will definitely go again when in the area

We called in around 17:00 on a Sunday without booking. A table was available for six of us almost immediately. We were informed that they stopped serving at 17:30. The only menu available was on the 'specials board' which was a choice of roast dinners. Pork, lamb, beef with Yorkshire pudding, or chicken @ £10.75ish. When the waitress came to take out order we were informed that the beef and pork had all gone, so just the lamb and chicken dinners were available. We opted for two lamb and four chicken dinners and asked for a Yorkshire pudding at an extra £1.50 each. The meals came reasonably promptly, and I suppose it was ok pub food which filled a gap. However I would think that there are better places to eat in the area and certainly offering a better selection. The beer was also the most expensive I have ever bought in the whole of the peak district at £4.20 for a pint of bitter. It's a shame the pub didn't live up to its grandeur and was all in all disappointing. Some of our group had been before during the week and on a Saturday and say the menu is much better, so will call again in the future as I'm sure it was just a bad day

Returned for a Sunday lunch, the food was top notch and well worth the price for the quality and service. Gets very busy booking is a must for a Sunday roast. Lovely pub, friendly staff. The food was lovely but a bit expensive.

Lovely pub in a great setting. Good and fair prices for the area, food pretty good too (my sirloin was slightly tough unfortunately, had it rare) but great portion sizes, side dishes were brilliant and my partner's mixed fish pasta was fantastic and full of flavour. Friendly staff.

Food is really first class, also extremely helpful and friendly staff. Friday we both decided on the duck in lemon and ginger sauce, beautiful. Today we had Sunday lunch, once again was delicious. Today the staff handled a most obnoxious, loud and demanding customer in a very polite and professional manner. The loud customer was well out of order. We would highly recommend. Have had weekday lunch here several times over the past 10 years and always excellent food and service in attractive surroundings. Booking recommended. Lovely outside beer garden at rear, very relaxing in fine sunny weather and just short walk to the pretty Sheepdip bridge over the river Wye.
