The Basement in Derbyshire Dales

We went to Thai Basement after it was recommended in the guidebook of the cottage we were staying in. The food was amazing, portion sizes were spot on and service was good. It was a lovely meal to end our trip away.

Enjoyed it food was good, dated but authentic decor didn't look loved which was a shame. Time for a sprucd up perhaps.

Absolutely amazing food! Honestly one of my favourite restaurants. The lamb shanks are a must have being so tender with the perfect amount of spice. I highly recommend the duck tamarind and the duck spring rolls. Sweet and sour chicken and even the prawn crackers are to die for. Finish up with a banana cup cake or three to finish off an amazing meal. The staff are kind and all very cheerful with impeccablecustomer service. The restaurant is cosy and the lighting helps keep the perfect late dinner mood. All in all a wonderful place and even better people, extremely impressed.

We enjoyed an unexpected evening meal at this restaurant. The waiting staff were friendly and swift in their service. Portion size was ample and the food we ordered was delicious, served hot and flavoursome. A cosy spot and busy with other satisfied customers, including another family, on a Tuesday evening. Our son described the meal as "brilliant" which for his fussy ways that is 5 star rating.

Had the mixed starter for two, basement sea bass, sticky rice, and Pud Thai delivered to our caravan site this evening. The woman who handled our order and delivered the food was friendly and everything delivered on time. The food was scrummy and both of us ended up eating for the sake of eating as we didn't want to waste any. Even the simple carrot side salad was really tasty. Food was well presented despite it being a take away. We will definitely eat there again.

Best Thai food! If you're visiting Ashbourne stop in to the Thai Basement. The food is delicious, well presented and reasonable priced. The decor is quirky and staff attentive. We come every year when we stay in the Peak District and will continue to do so ❤️

Beautiful and tasty food, nicely presented. Thai fishcakes taste fresh and authentic. Curry had many ingredients, would recommend.

The food here was pretty nice, but the customer service, unfortunately was lacking. I felt the waiter / greeter was almost annoyed by our presence and barely made an effort to make us feel welcome. However, the bus boy was very friendly!The food was ok, nothing to write home about. A bit more spicy than what I like, but the whole experience was decent. Better and friendlier customer service would have made the visit much nicer.

Amazing meal at the Thai Basement to celebrate my 30th birthday! Food was to die for, decor so quirky and our waiter so lovely and very accommodating! He even gave me a present to mark the occasion (a tiny pink elephant which was so fitting). I couldn't rate this place more highly!!
