The Bowling Green in Derbyshire Dales

What a great place, food was delicious, atmosphere is good, took a punt based on other reviews and we were not disappointed, my wife had a pizza and i had the beef ribs and a ribeye steak, the whole meal was excellent. If we are ever in the area again will definitely call in.

Booked a table after seeing all the great reviews on line was really looking forward to eating there this evening..then waited for an hour for main course and when it did finally arrive got half way thru what was a beautiful steak when a table of 4 in the corner started messing about and one of the party kept making noises like he was bring up flem over and over again. Put me right off my food when I challenged him he said he was only having a laugh with his mates and to top it off the staff encouraged him ...WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT

We have just got back from a long weekend in Ashbourne with my in laws and we visited The Bowling Green 3 times. Breakfast , lunch & evening meal were all fantastic. The breakfast was probably the best we have ever had. The food was enjoyed by all four of us. The staff were so friendly & helpful & we will certainly return when we are next visiting Ashbourne. This place is also dog friendly in the bar side which has a lovely feel to it & our dog's were made to feel welcome too which is a big thing for us as they are part of our family.

We visit here regularly, the steaks are best in the area and at consistently high level. Home made chips are crispy with fluffy potato centres and all other courses/options are good that we have tried with friends and family. Not cheapest option but you get what you pay for right!

Absolutely fantastic. The staff were friendly and polite, the food was delicious and they weren't skimpy on the portion sizes. Sharing Camembert to start; 12oz Sirloin with dauphinois potatoes; tomato, garlic and chili pappardelle with garlic bread; and Creme Brulee. Despite their pizza oven not working (a bit of shame) they were able to accommodate us with custom garlic bread from sour dough instead of a pizza-style base. All in all, very happy! Would come back!

Fabulous Sunday dinner after a lovely walk around Dovedale. Good value for money too. Staff are really nice and friendly, giving just the right amount of attention to customers without being smothering. Atmosphere in the bar was good, with a nice selection of beers to be had. Will definitely revisit when next in the area, no question.

Beautiful Sunday lunch cooked to perfection and piping hot. Allowed dog in bar area a extremely talented chef and good staff. Only 2 small niggles which had no real bearing on my experience. I'm sure the chef could knock up a nice homemade mint sauce instead of sachets and it would have been nice to close the dart board off next to us while food was being served. 9.9 out of 10

Food is underwhelming. Ribs were way too sweet, pasta with garlic prawns lacked flavour, mixed greens under-seasoned. Restaurant was packed and no one was wearing masks despite Omicron and the height of the pandemic. Very unsafe. Customer service was good, but hence won't be going back.

Really good pub with excellent food menu. Went for my mums birthday on 13th November 2021. The staff were friendly, service was good and the portion sizes were huge. The food was really hot and fresh. Couldn't fault it at all. Definitely a must go to place. Excellent!

This pub has a great atmosphere and ambience. The staff are very friendly and the service is fast. We had some delicious food which arrived less than 15 minutes after ordering—pizza and medium rare steak cooked to perfection!
