We had lunch here while visiting Padley Gorge just down t road. We came specifically for the gluten free menu and were not disappointed. The brisket burger was amazing and the restaurant and garden have great views at the rear. Staff were friendly and attentive, food came quickly. It was a great experience and we would definitely return if in the area again!

I just wanted to add a massively well deserved rating for a hotel which provides a bar for walkers to obtain a drink especially so close to Grindleford Railway Station. It's a very well stocked bar but in particular four cask beers! Two of the four tried & the beer was just excellent & served by lovely friendly staff.Well worth a visit & I will certainly return.

Attended a wedding here and stayed overnight. All staff extremely friendly and helpful. Very good customer service. Food was amazing and enjoyed several courses over the two days. Will definitely be coming back again.

My husband arranged my birthday lunch at the Maynard. The decor is very stylish and the menu was varied and sounded so good it was hard to choose!! The food was excellent and the service was brilliant. It was a beautiful day so we had coffee on the terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens. I was presented with a piece of cake and the plate was decorated with birthday wishes- a lovely touch. Thank you.

A really nice pub and restaurant (Not used the bedrooms) had an evening meal and a second visit for a drink on both occasions I felt like they cared and couldn't do enough to ensure we had a special visit. Its set in a lovely place so if your staying the night the view's and walking in the area are stunning. The food is prepared and presented very well and well worth a visit.

Excellent service, all staff very friendly and accommodating. Food was top notch perhaps one of the best venues we've been to for a long time. No one had a complaint out of the 20 plus party we had there. And the luv dogs.

Charming hotel with a uniquely quaint atmosphere. The mix of vintage and modern design was extremely unique! We greatly enjoyed the included breakfast which offered great quality, portion size and variety. Would stay again!

Friendly staff (especially Chris), beautiful and clean bedroom and bathroom, and great dishes all contained in a well-maintained structure with lovely interior! My booking included breakfast; though I didn't find that medley of fruits suited for the very limited amount of Greek yoghurt (probably just my personal preference of fruits), their choice and quality of components of the English breakfast were really good! Just a heads-up, a serve of The Maynard's buckwheat pancake and Spanish omelette was massive so don't order both, simply decide which one you'd like to have. They were both delicious so I am sure it'll will be a difficult decision especially if you love to have both pancakes and omelletes for breakfast. 😉

Amazing scenery, perfectly place beautiful hotel, everything about this place was just lovely, furnishings are delightful, attention to detail amazing. Our room, the Fullerton was just perfect in every single wayWe had an evening meal, excellent choices & the food was well presented & tasted great. Breakfast was delicious, again plenty of choice. The staff were friendly & nothing was too much troubleHighly recommended I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. We definitely weren’t, quite the opposite. We couldn’t believe it was only 3*

The Maynard is under new ownership/management (since January) and the team are to be commended for their work to put this venerable small hotel back on the map. The setting is excellent, within minutes of several hikes in the Grindleford area. The staff are very friendly and keen to serve their clients well. The hotel rooms (there are about 10) are decently appointed and renovated - we stayed in a standard double which was perfectly good for two nights. There is a restaurant on site which serves good food, with an extensive menu and options for all tastes (including vegetarian.) Breakfast is good and cooked to order. The portions are substantial. The only drawback at the hotel I'd note is that the bar area is a bit sterile and anonymous. It feels more like a cafe than a pub - it's quite brightly lit with multiple generic tables and hard chairs, even in what looks like the snug part of the bar by the (unlit) fire. So there's not much soft seating. If there was just a little more of a snug bar at the hotel (which really is what you want if you are staying there and it's a dark rainy afternoon outside) it'd be perfect. But overall, good work, definitely a nice place to stay.
