The Moon Inn in Derbyshire Dales

First visit in 30 years and wow, what a gorgeous pub. Add to that the beer was phenomenal and the young lady behind the bar was friendly. We will return!!

Had a great Sunday lunch experience! The staff were super nice and proficient. Although the menu didn't have a huge choice, the food on offer was far from your standard pub menu, and everyone in our party of 9 people were very complementary about their chosen dish! What was very good was their ability to cater for vegetarian's! The inside of the pub was also very well decorated, comfortable and homely.Parking is a nightmare though, and I would advise parking in one of the small village side of the road car parks at either end of road entrance into the village.I would really recommend this pub. You won't be disappointed!

Disappointing experience! It was very quiet for a Sunday lunchtime with more staff than diners Food was ok if not stunning but finished plates were left on our table and we had to go to the bar to request the bill

I thought the Moon Inn was great. This last weekend we were staying close by and a few of us went for a drink there on the Thursday evening and the bar staff and locals were very friendly. The following night 12 of us had an evening meal birthday celebration. Despite it being a Friday night at peak time, the food was excellent and the service was quick, friendly and efficient. Thankyou to all the staff who served us . Also 4 of our party stayed there overnight and commented on how good the breakfasts were.

Would not go back, not only did they take the full amount from our account 5 days before we arrived, we waited an age for every meal we ordered, no covid measures in place, bar staff very friendly though, when the food did arrive it was good, it's a shame, the place has potential.

Nice friendly pub/hotel. Rooms comfy, bed a bit creaky! Dog friendly. Could have done with boot brushes at the door as got very muddy from walking! Lovely full English breakfast. Dinner menu limited but nice. Good location for lots of walks. Enjoyed our stay.

See update below..Excellent pub in Stoney Middleton. Food excellent.Try the steak pie! Rooms great and very comfortable. (Don't tell everyone for fear of spoiling it.) Pleasant staff.Give it a try you won't be disappointed.UPDATED December 2021Now under new owner(s) : Can't believe how a place can go down hill so fast. While the new proprietor suns himself in tennerife he leaves two staff to run the pub and hotel to do everything. They are run ragged. Tried there best but unfortunately they were not able to do everything. No cooked breakfast today!Plus money taken a week ahead for rooms booked. Owner contacted states it is a trivial matter! Birthday celebration ruined .Arrogance at its best. To avoid disappointment I suggest you DO NOT STAY HERE.

Room was clean & reasonably comfortable, if rather basic. Once we got ourselves into the room with our luggage, there wasn't space for much else! Road noise is often a problem here, depending upon your room location. We stayed in a family room in the carpark which let in a lot of light - could do with better curtains. The heating made so much noise during the night (clicking & tapping) that I turned it off. We knew in advance about the limited dinner menu. Our pizzas that evening were good, but the bar staff are varied in their customer service delivery. Breakfast is good.

We stayed 2 nights. Breakfast exceptional and cooked fresh to order, staff really helpful and friendly with personal touches - remembered things about us and asked later how we got on. Stored a bike overnight in a shed for me. Family room (Derwent) was big with historic beams and period-looking light fittings and furnishings. Bathroom modern and clean. The rooms at the back are quiet. Location was perfect for us right between two venues for a wedding. Easy to get to the moors right from the Inn without using the busy A road that runs past (very steep hill though!)At the price I would expect better maintenance. Mattresses and beds not of high quality and worn, carpet wearing out, window blinds a little broken. Overall comfy and clean and would have been five star at lower price point. It's eight rooms above/behind an historic coaching Inn (hence next to busy road) and it was as expected in that regard. If you were in the two rooms at the front by the road you might well find them noisy from road and pub below (the other six rooms better) . Our family room was above the kitchen vent which did bring a regular fresh fryer smell and some noise until 11pm. Not unpleasant but not high end either, cutting back the laurel bushes might help the smell not to enter the room so much.

A busy Friday night in the bar but staff have no concept of food service. Ages to take an order, ages for food to arrive and cutlery came later! Food was good when it arrived, but there is a very limited menu.
