First place we go when we arrive at Bakewell. Recommend the hot dark chocolate made with chocolate pieces delicious. The choice of cakes, sandwiches and savoury pastries is very good. Service is with a smile

Had a great lunch here. Bacon, brie and cranberry melt with salad and ciabatta. Hazelnut milkshake was fantastic.

Superb cafe, great food, good value. Manager made sure everyone enjoyed their meal. I suspect might be busy at peak times but Sunday 13th March, all fine

It was a pleasure stopping in for brunch at Johns cafe. He was very accommodating to those in the group with dietary requirements and the place had a lovely authentic local ambience. Highly recommend!

It was good, hot toasted tea cake on a cold day. Toilets and small gift shop. The entrance is a little hidden, good spacious place once you get upstairs.

My wife & I love this place, we've been coming here since it opened. Great food & prices, lovely staff & owner, a great atmosphere. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Stumbled in here for a late lunch (1430) and had a delicious corned beef sandwich and a very respectable pot of tea. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the owner (I presumed). We mentioned we wanted to buy a Bakewell tart to take home that evening and his wife, who was running the sweets shop downstairs, rapidly produced a delicious specimen. Very dog friendly. Cafe-ish atmosphere with a fun little gift shop. Highly recommend!

The Upstairs Cafe & Gift shop in Bakewell, Peak District, Derbyshire is a great place to sample the local Bakewell Pudding along with a coffee or tea. With other drinks and cakes available and a gift shop for a souvenir of your visit, this cafe is popular with visitors from far and wide.Situated opposite the Co-Op supermarket and close to the river walk, this cafe is well worth a visit.

We stopped by for brunch and were greeted by welcoming staff and the manager. The food price is fair considering it's in a tourist area but the drinks are a bit pricey. It was almost £8 for 3 regular / small hot drinks. We ordered chicken and bacon mayonnaise jacket potato (£6.50), Full English breakfast (£8.95) and cheddar cheese and caramelised onion toasted sandwich (£5.95). Food portion was big and they were all faultless so were the drinks.
