We were passing and stopped for lunch nice warm atmosphere with friendly staff, the food was excellent and good portions.

Really nice atmosphere. Good selection of beers. Great food !! And dog friendly.

Booked in for Sunday lunch and what an excellent meal it was. I cannot recommend this highly enough but make sure you've made a booking.

Rustic country pub, Friendly welcome. Good choice of beer , Good main menu something for every taste , also Sandwich Board .Food was well presented . Picture shows Beef in Redwine Pie , with Chips & Veg. 😋

Discovered this fantastic gastro pub in November 2021 whilst searching for a dog friendly place to meet up with daughter and family half way between Stockport & Sheffield for lunch.Went back today for a birthday & wedding anniversary lunch. Beautiful drive sunny and roads good.Well recommended the food is fantastic different than the normal pub type.Definitely going back soon.

Amazing food and friendly staff. Atmosphere is fun as you feel like in a pub but with restaurant quality food. Prices are decent and pay for the quality. Could not recommend enough

After various research of where in the peak district near Buxton does a good roast, I kept being led back to this place, The White Lion. The website doesn't give much away but the fb page gives more pictures etc where there were really good reviews.I booked via email and received confirmation back very quickly.We arrived (2 adults and 1 6 month baby) and were met with a very welcome hello by a smiley women. We sat and ordered our drinks and 2 beef roasts...no question about it. The roast came out pretty quicky (I will note that we were the first ones in the pub and first table sat).The roast was divine, a dark, rich gravy with well seasoned beef & veg. The beef didn't cut well but no fear, it was the knife. The beef was tender and very tasty. The potatoes were herby yet properly roasted. There was enough veg and a huge yorkshire to go with it. Now, lets talk about the cauli cheese...usually a side. Nope, this comes as standard and I feel it was a good cheese as opposed to normal, bland cheese. It was so tasty and was a great addition to the roast.We were full up but asked if we could take a slice of backwell tart with Baileys custard home. Yes, this was easy for them and it was boxed up. It is now in the fridge and we are about to tuck in.Great little country pub, amazingly friendly service and just what we were after.Thank you for adding to our great day out.

Excellent food and much needed. Lovely staff, very helpful and friendly. I had the curry. Amazing value for money and tasted incredible. Such great portions. Couldn't fault it.

Great local pub with friendly staff. We were a party of five who enjoyed every bite of our lunch which was excellent value. I had the beef shin & red wine pie which was a good choice, the beef melted in the mouth and was simply delicious. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for dessert which was a shame as they looked good!

it only took us 10 minutes walked from Thornbridge hall gardens to the pub on thursday. we arrived 12:15pm and few tables had already been reserved. so recommended to book tables in advance to avoid disappointment. good quality food serves in the pub. large choices in menu. pub has free wifi. seems didnot have its car park, so parking on street.
