Good fish and chips. Good taste and the place is what someone can expect of a small village shop!

We travelled a long way to this fish and chip cafe today and found the table top was really dirty, we had to get some tissues from the toilets to clean the glass. The explanation given by a young lady was that some customers had just left and she hadn’t had the time to clean it. The cafe was empty and the glass top table was dirty(Not spillings). When I told the manager, he said “I’ll have a word with her” it still cost £19.90 for two.The fish and chips were very nice hence the 3stars

Nice enough food, people pleasant but, it needs a damn good clean, condiments, tables etc all very greasy. Not sure where the fire exit for underground restaurant is, assuming door in photo but, not signed - not clever obstructing with table and chairs

We always come from Skegness just for the fish & chips here it's cooked to perfection love the large haddock the staff can't do enough for you they are lovely

Our first night of a short break close to Horncastle we wanted something tasty but quick , I looked at various reviews and came across Mantles fish and chips so we called for takeaway fish and chips. On Monday 10 th September approximately 7.10 pm I went in and asked if plaice was on the answer was no ok one haddock and chips and one cod and chips, the delightful girl said the didn’t know if the cod was on as it had just come in she asked if it was on and yes it was. While I was waiting I asked about parking in the market square over the road I was told the meter was not working , at this point the fryer knew we were passing trade. We left got back to where we were staying opened our wraps my wife’s cod was over cooked the batter dark golden and the chips looked like very small corner ends of the potato very greasy and over cooked. My Haddock and chips were by far the worst I’ve ever had the misfortune to buy my haddocks batter was a dark brown end saturated in oil the very small bitty chips were dark brown stained from the burnt discoloured fish on top . The whole meal was really inedible bu ate the white fish inside the batter we were hungry.I write good bad and outstanding reviews please see Browns Rooms Filey and a well deserved review .Unfortunately Mantles fish and chips in comparison were appalling having read good reviews it looked just the job , point being I will never let on I’m only passing trade , I just have a feeling my order was put to one side for whatever reason until it could be sold.Hopefully this review may prevent someone else getting an order that is visually unpleasant and well below what could be described as even a reasonable standard.

Appalling dining experience. Waitress handed dirty cutlery to my wife and I. When I pointed out that the knives and forks were coated with the remnants of another customers meal the waitress said that this was due to newly employed trainee staff in the kitchen. The meal was atrocious. Charged an extra 60p for a bun to go with my veggie burger. Laughed when I was served a buttered roll wrapped in cling film. Know that Lincolnshire isn’t the most enlightened of counties, but this made me feel like I’d been transported back to 1974. Wouldn’t return to this establishment.

I have had cod and chips from here several times, lovely fish and chips. This time i ordered the same but the fish smelt strong and had a chemical taste. Either this was not cod as ordered but a substitute or it was off. Charged ÂŁ10.80 for two portions which was not edible. Both portions thrown away. Will not being ordering from these anytime soon.

Whenever we have had fish and chips from here it has always been to a high standard. Even when bringing it home, a distance of 8~9 miles, by extra for wrapping it is still hot. Always cooked to order, so nice and hot.

Lovely staff, awful food. We normally go to mermaids but they were closed so we went here instead, had I have known how awful the food was I would have gone elsewhere, the chips weren't cooked properly and the haddock tasted disgusting and the batter was all stuck to the paper. I have thrown mine away as I just can't eat it. Cheese and biscuits for me tonight then.

Went to shop last Saturday 14th April for take away food, unfortunately the chips were tough and the fish was dry. We have used this fish and chip shop many times and find that the food quality is inconsistent. It seems to depend who is doing the frying. If it is the older gentleman you are fine.
