Abbey's Restaurant at Risley Hall Hotel in Erewash

We booked this as a group of groomsmen and the newlyweds to stay before and after the wedding. Hayley was an absolute angel and single-handedly got this 5 star rating sorted in one single night. The stay was already good but, on the wedding night Hayley opened the bar for the groomsmen and newlyweds well after hours and took care of our bride and groom with the best service she could give. And after they where sorted we had a lovely evening of drinking and karaoke under the watchful eye of Her. Thank you so much for an amazing few days. 🙏

Lovely old building, and grounds that show its history, a pleasant welcome at reception, room we stayed in was nice sized and adequate for our one night stay. Lovely choice for breakfastYou could tell that work still needs to be done to get back to a higher standard, but feel sure the owners will get there Ed and Gerry

Arrived at 9pm to an unclean room bedsheets dirty and screwed up beer bottles in room, bathroom unclean and shower gel bottles still in shower towel on floor ect!Had to got to reception where the only poor bloke who was working had to then come an clean the room, he made an changed the bed but unfortunately the bathroom was left an I had to wet wipe that an the tables in the room myself which were covered in tea an coffee!After a 3.5 hour drive with a toddler and an older child this was not ideal!Breakfast was not great at all!The hotel was tired an nothing like the pics!I talked about a refund on checkout an was told I would get it an they would be in touch! I was phoned an told to write an email to which I have been ignored for days! I have phoned an left details 3 times since an no one has been in touch!I will not give up!But warning others to beware an avoid booking

Nice place, love the food menu too. Looking a little tired in parts but really nice on a summer's day. Haven't stayed here so can't comment on the rooms but have eaten here many times

The building is beautiful and the location very convenient. The hotel needs a lot of work, however the staff were excellent and very helpful. The room was value for money

Lovely location but the room left a lot to be desired. Peculiar drainage/sewage smell on arrival that only partially dissipated (after we used our own cistern blocks and room freshener), scrabbling/scurrying/squeaking in the wall suggesting possible mice, low quality breakfast, and barely anything more than a dribble for a shower. So much potential but very disappointing - couldn't fault the front desk staff, though!

Location is lovely and the building itself is stunning and deserves money to look after it. Unfortunately the rooms and breakfast really let it down.It has been some time since I've stayed here as it has been used heavily in recent years to support Migrants which I applaud. I had just hoped that some of that money would have been put back into caring for this beautiful building.My room was large the bed had fresh sheets but that is about it.The bathroom was damp and paint was peeling everywhere, the wallpaper in my room was bubbling, and to top it off, water pressure was non existent for my shower in the morning.The breakfast was also disappointing. Over cooked eggs and "bread" that was closer to a slice of Ryvita once toasted. No fresh fruit and it speaks volumes if I pay £10 for breakfast and end up consuming a bowl of Corn Flakes.Won't be going back any time soon unless I hear money has been put back in to it.

I feel bad for this rating as this place needs more quests to improve their turn over and revamp the hotel. It's seriously tired. My room smelt of cigarettes, a friends was damp and another friends needed the toilet flushed let alone cleaned. It needs a serious amount of money and TLC spent on it to bring it back to its former glory. £110 a night is usually a reflection of a half decent 3 star. Not this place unfortunately. The pub next door is ideal though!

This was my second stay in a month and i thoroughly enjoyed it. The room in the main hotel was a great size and the bed was really comfortable.the breakfast was really good . I will plan to stay again in the future. Some earlier comment said about maintenance issues but there was a team of guys working on these when i stayed which is good news as it is a lovely place with nice grounds

This place has so much potential! But it could be so much better. The staff were all super friendly and helpful, I can't fault them at all. The building is absolutely stunning! The rooms are very very basic and not very well decorated, but comfortable and all the necessities are provided. Hot showers, coffee facilities and clean and tidy. The bar and restaurant were closed, but that could be due to the time of year. The grounds could be so lovely but are sadly not maintained.I feel like this place has the potential to be a real nice high end hotel. If they just invested a little more time etc into it, they could have something really amazing. I feel like its just a little neglected but the price does reflect this so...
