The term "alehouse" was used outside. As such I was expecting a much better selection of beer. The girls behind the bar were really nice. There was a highly annoying "boy" who was trying to explain to the other staff that people liked being abused and told to f off (????!!!!!) The experience was a lot better when he'd leftDecor was quite nice....and dog friendly.

Delicious food. Had the Cluck on a Rug. Simply delicious chicken breast on a bed of garlic and onion stuffing and Savoy cabbage. Wife had a delicious smoked chicken Caesar salad. Best pub meals we’ve eaten in ages. We will return.

Extremely friendly and accommodating staff. We hadn't booked in advance but they welcomed us with open arms and welcomed our dog in too. The food was delicious. Service was very prompt especially given how busy it was. Would highly recommend 😃👍

We called in on the off chance to eat, and the staff accommodated us, letting us use a table that was reserved for later, on the understanding that we vacated it before the next party came in. Only complaint, was it was extremely draughty where I was sat, but the staff were fantastic, super efficient, and we were served quickly. We could even take the dog in. Pretty little bar, full of quirky farm memorabilia, and rustic charm. We will definitely return.

Visited today for lunch after a walk up bamford edge. Staff were so welcoming and friendly! I had a steak and ale pie which was delicious then an exceptional sticky toffee pudding with custard to finish. A really quirky and cute pub with interesting interior. The pub is in the village and there is parking across the road. I can’t comment on the rooms as I had just popped in but if the pub is anything to go by then I’m sure it will be great. Will definitely be back :)

Superb pub. Definitely dog friendly - with a treats, water and towel station for drying off your soggy animal who can then station herself by the fire. She was spoiled rotten! Coffee is good, food is good and the beer is great. Friendly staff and a great place to get out of the wind and rain.

Very dog friendly, not just bowls of water inside but also towels to dry them off. Food choice excellent, we had 2 starters which were enormous and that was enough for us. Staff friendly, chatty and welcoming. Perfect on a chilly day in early February.

Only stopped for food and a few drinks while staying in Castleton, ale was spot on nice consice collection. Food was great! For me the starters were outstanding! Could of worked my way through all of them to be fair! Main i had was good "topside beef" sunday dinner essentially but great tasting veg! Staff were great! Bar woman was warm and welcoming. Overall great experience. Nice to have some normality back!

Had the Roasted Sweet potato Risotto.Although it was tasty the portion size was that of a Starter. When we brought this to the attention of the staff we were asked if we would like anything else.We asked for a side portion of Chips to compensate only to find that we were then charged for them on the Bill. When challenged about the portion size we were told that no-one else had made such a complaint .Management eventually removed the charge for the Chips.Overall, well below expectations.

Great Inn, in the heart of Castleton. Lovely ales and a great scampi with chips. My lad had beef and Yorkshire puds. A fantastic place to eat, talk and relax and also dog friendly.
