Lovely traditional pub with a nice restaurant side. The food was really good, and there were some unusual options on the menu alongside the trusted favourites. Our dessert order got mislaid before it was put through the till, but they were very apologetic and once we asked if it was on the way it was very quick. The service was warm and welcoming, I think it might have been the landlady who was really lovely. The whole place had a nice atmosphere, and while I waited for my company, I sat inside on my own quite comfortably. In many places I would have felt awkward, but not here.

My girlfriend and I stayed here on the bank holiday weekend and it was banging. The food was great and it’s ace my partner had a complete vegan menu to choose from. The building is just amazing, very good well kept beer, but it’s the staff that are the business. Super friendly, couldn’t do more for you, really flexible and easy going. I PROMISE we won’t be late for breakfast again or this time I will do the washing up. Thanks for being legends 👍🏼💫

Lovely food, meat fell apart in pie was scummy! Apples crumble was dreamy but too much to eat was too full, could have spent a full day to complete eating food. OH GREAT!! My mouth is watering now 🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂😊

Very friendly staff who were helpful. Food very good especially the breakfast! Great location. Room clean and tidy and has everything that is needed. Bed was soft and would have preferred it firmer but that is a personal choice. Would come again.

A group of 8 of us stopped off here for a meal on Bank holiday. We were warmly welcomed, served by very pleasant and efficient staff. We all enjoyed our meals. Generous portions of home cooked food. Highly recommend the succulent chicken dish in creamy garlic sauce. Inside the pub is very cosy but surprisingly spacious. Thanks for the perfect end to our day out .

A beautiful traditional pub and good food and breakfast. The minus point was that room had a very small window and so a bit gloomy and dingy. It was so cold and even we used a fan heater but still cold. For these reasons at least I would have expected a bit lower price for it. Hence the three stars.

Can't praise this place highly enough!Absolutely loved the place, fabulous food great beer, friendly welcoming staff brilliant music playing softly in the background and a superb atmosphere. Together with a seat right next to the fire to dry out after cycling there during Storm Eunice...It just couldn't have been better!

New year's Day evening. Dinner menu very good. Imy mom had a small scampi and chips which was lovely. Wife had pie and mash which was also great. I had mixed grill. Probably the BEST mixed grill I have had but... The steak was terrible and tough. Shame. Even though. Still it was one of the best.

Brilliant little weekend away in Castleton staying at the Cheshire Cheese. Super friendly and helpful staff, despite being incredibly busy. Room was much better than we expected, double bed was nice and comfy.Food was excellent! Breakfast both mornings was brilliant, quick and tasty. Had food on the last night, also really tasty. Pub was super busy but to be expected there. Would recommend for a nice little weekend away!

Great friendly service from all staff. Called in on the off chance for a pub lunch today was shown to a table quickly and had a very tasty Sunday roast. We had a booking at another pub which we cancelled and ate here instead so pleased we did. We will definitely return and would recommend.
