I'm giving 2 stars just because I was really hungry and nothing was inedible. My visit to the Royal Redgate started with a request from a staff member for us to wait for a different staff member to come and seat us which took fair few minutes. Before my bum met the chair, the waitress who was obviously in a rush asked for the drinks order. Few minutes later, a hurried bar staff plonked our teas on the table and tried to rush away, we informed him we are ready to order. He came back with his trusty notepad and took down our orders- chicken pate and risotto for starters, 2 steaks and sides for mains. The food arrived in a timely manner but unfortunately the toast was way too dry with the chicken patè and no butter provided. The risotto was another story- the pasty, play-doh like texture was met with still crunchy rice in a middle, the temperature not even hot enough to melt the sprinkled cheese on top and a green pureed "something" for a garnish. The child in me couldn't resist playing with my food so I decided to build a wall in my plate with the gritty, pasty mush before eating it and I will try to add a picture of my accomplishment 😂. Once we ate our sad starters, we waited for good 10 mins for our plates to be cleared, informed waitress about the "lovely" consistency of the risotto and patiently waited for the mains. Once the steak arrived, we were unpleasantly surprised- for £24 you get an overcooked filet, with one grilled tomatoe set on top of a flat mushroom and topped with green, weird sauce that I scraped off mine as I couldn't stomach the flavour of it and either a seving of chips or mashed potatoes, no salad or veg in sight. There was an option of a jacket potato but I cannot comment on that as we didn't order it. The steak was cooked for a tad too long, wasn't salted or pepered enough before searing and all in all it was very bland. The best part of my meal was the mashed potatoes, I really enjoyed it. All in all- slow, underwhelming and not on my list of places to visit again.

No matter the day, the time, this place is great. The food is top notch, the staff are helpful, polite, attentive and professional. The atmosphere is homely, welcoming and relaxing. Do yourself a favour, try it. You won’t be disappointed, and you will definitely become a regular!! 👍👍

Booked a table for 7pm, Sunday evening. I was made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome from the minute I walked in the door. After being seated a member of staff came over to ask if I had actually booked a table and what name it was under making out I wasn't supposed to be there, even though there were only about 4 tables taken and it wasn't busy. Another member of staff then came to tell me the kitchen was about to close and how long would the person joining me take to get there. In which case they probably shouldn't take bookings for a time when the kitchen is closing! We were rushed to order once she arrived and while I was still eating my food the waitress came over to ask if she could clear our plates. Told her no as I was still eating and she just walked away and shouted across the room to her colleague that we were not finished. We were then told it was last orders at 8:30 and when we asked if the opening hours had changed as it states they are open until 10pm they just looked around and said "hmmmm probably closing around half 9 tonight". No one came back to see if we wanted anymore drinks and they sat with their mates at the bar making cocktails and having staff drinks whilst we waited for our bill. We eventually went up to pay while our waitress sat at the bar having a drink. They couldn't wait to get rid of us from the moment we arrived and made us feel so uncomfortable. The waitress in particular was really rude and had a terrible attitude. It was clear we were nothing but an inconvenience to her. Disgusting customer service from the get go.

Nice restaurant and good service. A bit disappointed in my steak and Stilton baguette. Tiny amount of steak, but was presented with a nice salad and lovey chips.

I frequented this restaurant for a family gathering. Travel time around 30mins.The food I found was very tasty and I enjoyed how it was presented.Food did take a good while to come out so unless the kitchen was understaffed, I didn't understand why as there were no mention of delays.Whilst the food was nice, I am unlikely to return due to the journey time and having similar local options.

Our first experience going to the red gate won’t be going again. The decor wasn’t too bad and we were seated and served quickly so can’t fault that. What we can fault is the overall price for what you receive! We went for the burger which looked like an oversized meatball and because of this was very dry, and a steak and chips which was nothing more you can make at home. The main shock was the price for drinks! We’re almost in 2022 and up until today I’ve never been to an establishment that charges per single shot for a double spirit? £9.80 for a flavoured gin and tonic? I would have expected that price for a restaurant in Birmingham/London, not however at a pub on the side of the A444.If you want to pay twice the price for above average pub food at an OK venue then this is the place for you. But realistically you might as well just stay at home.

Visited on Monday on the spur of the moment. I had the beef burger which was absolutely delicious. My husband had the chicken pie and mash which he said was really good. The Redgate is a bit of an hidden gem. Staff friendly lovely surroundings and great food. Definitely visit again. In fact booked for Sunday lunch.

So I requested something nice for my partners birthday but nothing was done for it. Starters came out fast, we then waited over an hour for the mains to arrive. Portion sizes are very small. Waitress was lovely. Won't be returning.
