Charlotte House in Lincoln

Rather dated. Needs major renovation. Poor breakfast. Staff don't seem to have been trained in customer services. Poor Hotel parking.

Nice hotel right near the castle in a nice garden. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was great.Was a bit hot but was unseasonably hit all of sudden so can't all be avoided.Could have had a better breakfast and would have been convenient to have a minifridge in the room

Careful with the owner Jonathan Pass if you have a wedding booking here.He owned Kelham Hall (google the articles). Many people booked weddings there and paid up front (due to the significant discount).He then put the place up for sale before wedding dates and refused to refund them. He owed us 8k, complete shark, can't be trusted.The hotel itself is horrible, tarnished by a disgusting person. Wouldn't recommend

Stayed on the nights of 26th & 27th November for Amy and Dan's wedding. Nothing too much trouble for the very friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent. A very enjoyable stay.

I cannot even rate this place totally disgusted the duvet had a big brown stain and smaller stains the mattress was covered in numerous urine stains and hairs galore and there was no mattress protector. The receptionist left shortly after we arrived at 3pm and was not available on the phone number that was given in the event of an emergency. I went back Monday morning to show the receptionist who was there and she said she would not be able to sleep in the bed and would let the manager aware guess what the manager has not even had the audacity to make contact so I will now be contacting the Lincoln city Environmental health team

It says that the hotel is a four star hotel... I think not. Two star at best. Booked for two nights bed and breakfast, when we arrived, we were told that the chef had walked out so there was no cooked breakfast. No offer of a partial refund. Breakfast was described as a continental breakfast. If you call cereals and toast a continental breakfast, you might be satisfied. We were not... Bed very uncomfortable. Place itself could be great, but very tired and unloved. Certainly not worth £190. Central heating system sounds like a jet engine, and looks like something from a 1950's school room. On our last morning's breakfast, the waiter was removing tables and chairs around us while we were trying to eat... Not good service. Apparently they were hosting a wedding later in the day. Felt like we were in the way. It's enough to give one ulcers. Will not be going again, and I suggest that you don't either.

I would have loved to have given five stars for the review due to the fantastic staff and the amazing, lovely wedding I attended. All staff were friendly and worked hard to make the day wonderful for the bride, groom and all the guests. The food was exceptionally good, both at the wedding and at breakfast. Compliments to the chef and his/her team!The only issue preventing a five star rating was the room. Whilst clean and comfortable, It was very tatty and unappealing - clearly in need of serious renovation.There was also a lot of noise from a nearby venue - loud music and even louder voices continuing well into the wee small hours. Not too much of a problem for us as we were celebrating past midnight, but had we been visiting for a leisure break we would definitely have been unhappy at the lack of sleep.Nevertheless, I would recommend the hotel as a wedding venue as after all, that is what was important.

What a wonderful, strange and idiosyncratic place this. We stayed here in early September.What makes it such an eccentric delight is the staff. From the guy serving breakfast to the reception and booking staff. Brilliant. They make the place.This is not, currently, a high end hotel in terms of the polish and finish. Apparently, over the years it has been owned by the Council, a home for nurses (possibly for the lunatic asylum at the Lawn) , a conference centre, and is now run as a hotel and wedding venue. I imagine it will be redeveloped and become incredibly swanky at some stage.Apart from the incredible staff there are two other reasons to stay here.The location is superb. Right up against the castle walls and five minutes walk from the cathedral. It is also very quiet.Then there is the amount of space we had. A stand alone bedroom with a half four poster, a small sitting room and the huge bathroom with high end fittings. All scrupulously clean if rather shabby.Opposite is a truly excellent Tapas bar. I'd advise you book in advance.If you want space, location and friendly staff and great value this is for you. If you hanker for boutique hotel style and Marriott style prices and furnishings maybe think again.

Beautiful hotel, very old, characterful features throughout, and lovely staff. Room we stayed in was luxurious and very nicely done up to a modern standard without loosing any of the character of the building.
