Fuel Tank Engine Yard in Melton

Lovely looking place with friendly staff, however spent around an hour here for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks. Upon entering the sign said wait here to be seated so we waited. 3 members of staff walked past and ignored us, then someone from the other side of the dining room came over to seat us, she publicly told off the staff who walked past us. She seated us then went back to folding napkins at one of the tables. We ordered 2 sandwiches and the staff were really friendly. Waited half an hour for these sandwiches to arrive, yet there was lots of empty tables and other customers who weren't even in the cafe when we ordered had their food arrive before us. While we waited we heard the lady folding the napkins tell the other staff to 'look busy' as she stood behind the bar yet coffee drinks which were waiting to be taken to tables sat there for at least 5 minutes as no one took them. At one point there was 7 people behind the bar yet 5 trays of coffees waiting to go, at one point the lady making coffees went to the kitchen presumably to find someone to take them.In the end the sandwiches were lovely and good value for money, but the service was rather chaotic.

Nice food and drink. Under staffed and slow with slight wrong order, but very nice and definitely go back again. ( the staff where doing best they could and polite)

We recently had our third visit and this remains a great breakfast / lunch spot. Huge portions although it was a smaller lunch menu that I remembered. Cakes were delicious. Service was quite slow but the staff were all very nice and apologetic!

Very limited menu, with only 2 mains (fish and chips or pheasant and chips) was seated without menus and 5 minutes later was asked if I was ready to order. Problems trying to pay for the meal, had to wait 10 minutes for a broken machine to restart. Heard fellow customers saying they would never come back and literally thought the exact same. Wanted a nice pub type meal... went to the wrong place sorry.

Very disappointed in vegetarian meal, told sauce would not be on gnocchi but was so did not eat! Very chaotic serving (young waitresses were a bit grumpy!) However parents (whose party it was)had a good time so that is what mattered!

Beautifully furnished and appointed, but chaotic. Visited on a Saturday afternoon. No visible signage to advise customers to find a table or wait to be seated, whether to order at the bar or table service. Downstairs was pretty crowded so I set off upstairs. Met a sulky young woman and asked if there was room upstairs. ‘Have you been sent up there?’ she growled. ‘You have to speak to the host before you get a table’. Duly did as we were told only to watch three members of a staff disappear back downstairs. Eventually my fried lost patience and went to order at the bar. Our sulky friend was setting tables and glowering. We must have waited almost 20 minutes for our coffees to be served, despite being the only customers upstairs. Coffee was nice enough when it was served, and came with cream as requested. But please buck your ideas up regarding etiquette and customer relations!!!

Fantastic bar/ restaurant. Great menu choices and counter choices of cakes and treats. Great staff and cosy environment. Great prices

Great tasting fresh food, accommodated us without booking, great sheltered outdoor seating area with blankets and wooden tables to fit all the family

Lovely food and fairly priced. Service could have been a little quicker, but staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean. Great atmosphere and free 2 hour parking on site.

The staff were nice however we were told we had to wait 20 minutes for a table and when we were finally taken upstairs the whole place was almost empty! On the other hand the food and drink was good and we did enjoy ourselves. If you want food other than cakes they only seem to serve that before 3 I think as when we got there it was tea coffee and cake only.
