Was excited to visit as we were in the area and I when looking for somewhere to eat I saw positive reviews for this pub. However - Having booked a table prior, you walk in with no direction as to whether to approach the bar or whether to grab whichever table you fancy. When asked at the bar we were pointed to a table which was hardly big enough for a game of dominos (despite the fact that the booking was for 3 people). We had a 6 month old with us and wasn't offered a high chair. When I asked for a high chair I was given vague instructions on where to get one (never visited before so most of the instructions were unclear without knowledge of the pub). Our table, despite being tiny, felt like we were right in the way, especially with a high chair next to it.We chose to order on the My Pub app, however signal isn't great in Southwell and there was no WiFi, so it was a struggle to order food via the app.Food arrived, as a lover of good pub grub, I was so disappointed. Beige food which looked like it came out of a kitchen in which the staff have no passion for what they are serving. Undercooked chips, soggy burger bun. Food came out in about 5 minutes which was about the only positive, however was a bit of a poisoned chalice as no meal which can be prepared and brought to a table in 5 minutes can be of high quality. Tasted ok, however was clear microwaved/hot plate food. Which is fine, however if you're serving wetherspoons level food then charge wetherspoons prices, not double.Waitress also bashed into our pushchair whilst I was feeding our child, no apology. Just simple manners lacking.

Visted in the afternoon for a quick drink, which was great sat out in the sun. Came back later for some dinner which was disappointing. I had the mixed grill, chicken was dry as was the steak. My father in law had a Curry which was like a child portion, and no mango chutters.

First time in visiting the pub i had a lovely warm welcome from all the staff. Me and my friends ordered some food and was lovely well worth the money and will be visiting again very soon thank you to all the team!

We visited midweek for a nice meal. We really enjoyed the small plates. They are really good value for money with five small plates for a good deal under £15.00. Zoe, our waitress was lovely and was really attentive throughout the evening. She made sure our glasses were always full. Good food and good service

Ordered one lasagne and one mixed grill. Lasagne steaming hot until I got to the bottom and middle, it was stone cold. Asked for it to be heated up and it came back sizzling hot covered in a load of cheese and could not eat. Mixed grill looked ok but fried egg hard, steak was the size of a golf ball. Overall not the best unfortunately but it’s commercial so nothing new. The pub it self was ok, hole in the ceiling with a menu trying to stop draft, toilets could be cleaner and the sports bar over taken by groups of young lads having a good night. Would of liked to have played pool but was told it’s booked for the night.

A great pub with a really warm atmosphere and lovely staff, however i was disappointed to discover there were only two pool cues across two tables. The remaining cues were also practically broken with one being a smaller size. Overall a lovely pub however a shame about the pool.

Great family-friendly pub. Efficient service, good food. We ordered the wrong hot drink by mistake and our waitress swapped it no problem and with a smile (thanks Evie!)

There's some great "old fashioned" pubs in Southwell with a better ale selection but we end up in the Rodney more than anywhere. It's family and dog friendly, food is reasonable and quick, has a great sports bar and has sensible opening hours. They give our sprocker water and sometimes treats from behind the bar! Open late at weekends (not that we're able to enjoy this).

The real ale choice was good and very reasonably priced, the food however was a little disappointing to say the least, they had run out of pretty much everything we wanted, from pie to lasagne, which wasn't too bad as we made other choices, but then they bought out the smothered steak which had neither button mushrooms or onion rings with it, which it stated on the menu, and when we asked a member of staff he just said we have none and walked away. The food was nice that we had but I think some staff need a little more training when it comes to customer service.
