The Riverside Pub & Kitchen in Newark and Sherwood

Had a joyous Sunday roast today couldn’t fault it food was sublime, had a lovely man with a Sheffield accent serve me and the husband but didn’t catch his name.

Bread and olives were £5 for 3 tiny pieces of bread. The one vegan dish they had was out so I had the halloumi burger, which was dryer than a Persian flipflop. I didn't bother with dessert. Poor menu and overpriced for under qualified kitchen staff.

I visited the pub/restaurant on two occasions, a Sunday dinner and a lunch.The decor is quite pleasant and venue is situated near the river - ideal setting to have a light walk after the meal. However, service and food allow much room for improvement.Staff was slow and somewhat unresponsive to customer needs. It took a long wait to get their attention, considering there were over three members of staff in the main room and, in both occasions, the venue was not busy.As to the food I was served, the Sunday roast (beef) was not at its best - meat was not fresh and potatoes were cold. I could sense the low quality of the ingredients and the inadequate cooking.Lunch (fish and chips and burger) were pleasant overall, but could've been improved in terms of portions and flavours. Fish and chips was very small as main and the fish (haddock) was minimal compared to the amount of batter used to cover it. Burger was tasty, but the vegetables were not fresh. A closer look at the menu shows that it needs newness and renovation. Perhaps, adding a few more options to the menu and improving quality of ingredients would enhance dining experience and food.In conclusion, improvement of service and development of menu and food would increase quality of the pub/restaurant.

Had a rubbish experience at this pub.We called as the description of the pub was that it was next to a river in a nice setting, we arrived to a pub which granted was decorated nicely inside but the outside area - decking on the front of the pub was in the car park.We were told it was order at the bar, and when we did the bar tender came across like he couldn't be bothered, I was then expected to carry a basket with cutlery etc as well as two drinks with no tray. He then proceeded to dismiss me as I struggled to gather everything from the bar and serve someone else. The food took longer than expected to arrive and when it did eventually arrive the food was cold. One of the meals that came was supposed to be gammon egg and chips, it was not gammon it was no more than two pieces of bacon. Overall this pub is over priced, with let down food and miserable lazy staff.

Amazing. We went for lunch and chose the 3 course special. The Staff were superb the service was brilliant and the food was amazing. I will definitely be returning and can not speak highly enough of this wonderful place.
