Hackney House Cafe in North East Derbyshire

Horrible, rude, petulant staff. The noise they generated by the simple act of making a cup of coffee was horrifying! Constant slamming of drawers and crashing of cutlery will keep me away from this place...pity, as the potential is there.

A little gem of a place, brilliant home cooked food, stunning savoury pies served with local veg, followed by sweets, cakes and puddings to die for.All at a sensible price and served by caring and conscientious staff. Top marks.

About bang average to be fair, went there because they had a jubilee afternoon tea menu. The food took 40 minutes to arrive which for sandwich’s and cake in a cafe is a tad too long for my liking. The cake to sandwich ratio was about 70-30, the sandwiches were very basic, egg mayonnaise (appeared shop bought) cheese and tuna) the cakes were nice but would have preferred more savoury than sweet. Was really hungry before I arrived and left hungry so at to go to the Peakcock next door for a meal. Think I’ll give it a miss next time.

Good service and very sound full english breakfast. Nice flat white too. Lots of reserved tables but we were lucky enough to get a table for 4 just turning up at 11

Stopped for a sausage roll and cheese scone. Oh and a cake!All was lovely. Nice and clean and staff pleasent.

Excellent food, friendly obliging staff, tempting cakes and pies to takeaway. Highly recommended.

3 stars as we love the food and location, the staff however need to brush up on their customer service skills. We have been here quite a few times and have never had a pleasant member of staff serve us. We will continue to go as it’s our choice to….we enjoy the walk. We are prepared for the poor staff service, it will be an added bonus if we do ever encounter a friendly member of staff!

Sunday Roast + Pud, both excellent! Very busy, so it was the day for a leisurely meal, which is what we were after. Eat inside, out the front, or on the rear courtyard. Not sure if the cafe is licenced for alcohol.

The last time I went here was 35 years ago for family Christmas meals. The fantastic home made food is taken to the next level with great service and cosy setting. They still have a great selection of puddings. The chocolate orange bread and butter pudding was amazingly light and very moreish. The conversion of the gift shop into a bakery is just what it needed. Signature scones were fab.
