Stopped off for a quick drink and something to eat for Mother's Day and was not disappointed! The food was amazing and arrived very quickly, the drinks were great too. The cocktails were beautiful and were presented nicely. Would highly recommend!

This is the first time we have visited here and we will be returning. The food is amazing , hot, tasty and served quickly. The whole setting inside is inviting comfortable and cosy. The staff are extremely polite professional and accomodating. If you looking for a nice meal at a reasonable price then I would highly recommend here. Thank you.

A pleasant surprise. First time there food very good, staff friendly and efficient, price very reasonable. We'll be there again soon for sure.

First time visit after a recommended, safe to say we were not disappointed! The Sunday roasts are indeed!!Myself and my hubby shared the butchers block and it was one of the best Sunday meals we have had, really fair prices, absolutely lovely decor and the staff were brilliant! Will definitely be visiting again!!

Visited on quiet Sunday afternoon. Pub is in a good location with excellent surroundings. Food was very good, but the service was dire. Not too many customers in but dirty plates piling up in our room, even though there weren't too many customers in. Devoid of atmosphere too. A real shame.

We have been here before and the food was excellent, unfortunately today the food was not good at all. The topside of beef was overcooked and tough, the chicken was also overcooked and dry. Not impressed one bit and it spoilt my Mums Birthday meal. 🙄☹

Incredibly disappointed! My initial optimism was quickly shattered when the bartender managed to mess up a simple pint of ale, the poor kid couldn't work the swan neck to save his life and nearly tried to foist me with half a pint of beer as the rest was foam.On ordering food we were also severely dissatisfied. The Beef and ale pie had no beef, and no real taste. The pastry was soggy and the accompanying mash had a weird sour taste and was lumpy. The haddock was chewy, quite clearly been frozen and wasn't fresh at all. The one redeeming factor was the batter which was quite light and crispyAll in all a bit of a dismal experience.

Although the staff were very welcoming and attentive, I'm afraid we were left underwhelmed by our most recent visit. What has happened? It's gone down hill. The menu is limited for choice and very over priced for the small portions.£6.50 for 4 small duck spring rolls and a garnish, not even a salad! As for the rump steak, it came with a few mushrooms, 2 cherry tomatoes (yes, cherry) and plenty of chips. The meal should have been renamed Steak and Chips, as it was a poor excuse for tomatoes and mushrooms. The steak itself was bang average. The dessert, although pricey at £6.50 for a slice of cherry bakewell tart and a scoop of ice cream, was the best course.I know times have been difficult with COVID but I am afraid we will not be visiting again. We used to really enjoy the H&J but it was very disappointing to say the least.

Decent Vegetarian options, the food was tasty and good pub atmosphere. Service was average as we had to wait a while for someone to come round & take our drinks order after we had eaten. Finally, We were charged for drinks that we didn't have (I should've checked the bill!!). Overall, an average pub which is disappointing considering the great reviews on here & on TripAdvisor.

Recently held a private party at the Horse and Jockey and was really impressed by the size and quality of the function room (complete with pool table which also doubled up as the serving table beforehand!) and its private bar, as well as the high quality of food and drink, and the friendly, helpful and hard-working staff. The accommodation is also of an excellent standard with the rooms being a really good size and very high quality. Will definitely be back soon!
