The Peacock Inn in North East Derbyshire

Atmosphere, staff, surroundings very good. Downside, having booked a table for 12.30 we got our meal at 13.35 having arrived in plenty of time. My gammon meal was perfect but my two companions roast were not. Both had well done roast lamb. It was very tough, potatoes were spongy and not enough of them. Yorkshires were very good.

Very popular place on the edge of the peak district. Got to give five stars for the food alone. But really, can’t fault the place. Plenty of parking, good ambience, great coffee, good choice of beers and not a wobbly table to found!I will definitely go there again and recommend it to anyone.PS if banging/slamming doors get on your nerves then avoid the bar area next to the toilet entrance. Unless , of course, they’ve fixed by the time read this!

prebooked a table for 4 on wednesday lunch 1:30pm. arrived 1:10pm and the pub was already busy. menu is not extensive but prices are reasonable. staffs were friendly. all the food we ordered were tasty. fish in fish and chips was fresh.

Very pleasant experience; the pub was very busy, but we were very quickly made welcome and shown to our table. The menu was good, food was good and the staff were friendly and efficient.

Popped in on a sunny Wednesday lunchtime with a dog, staff were amazingly friendly (all still wearing masks so still very covid- friendly), they're still doing table service which was lovely, fab choice of indoor and outdoor (sunny, shaded or heated if you needed it), the lunchtime menu was extensive. All food is homemade - the fish finger sandwich is what I decided on but my gosh the homemade fish fingers were fabulous and served with a large portion of homemade fries. We were on a walk (paths directly from Linacre reservoir/woods) but definitely worth a drive if you're not on two feet!

Staff was lovely, I wouldn't normally complain however, the food wasn't great at all!! I ordered the STEAK ciabatta, when it came the meat was grey and looked more like pork. It tasted and looked like it had been boiled or been cooked in a microwave 🤮

We have visited this pub several times for lunch mostly after walking in the area. We find it best to book a table an hour or so from the end when we know precisely when our walk is likely to finish. Never yet, not had a table.This is a very smart looking old country pub, well furnished and equipped with comfortable dining and lounge areas. The staff are always friendly and attentive. The menu varied and not atall pub grub nor bistro pub themed ......just somewhere inbetween.We have never been disappointed with the food nor the selection of wines and beers available.Always leave the place with a feeling that this is somewhere special.

Difficult to grade The Peacock because lots was 5* but other things were disappointing. It’s possibly a brilliant place to eat and we just were unlucky. Anyone can have an off-day, so I won’t mention the grumpy waitress and will instead say that two of the serving staff were pleasant and friendly.The menu looked great for both carnivores and veggies. I chose the prawn cocktail, which was tasty and well presented. I then had the hot smoked salmon salad. Not sure why it was described as hot, as it was all cold (& not spicy). The salad was pleasant enough, and I had a side order of potatoes which were cooked perfectly. There was too much salmon (in fact the dish was mainly salmon).We also ordered a halloumi burger and fries. This was simply too salty to eat.The fries were COVERED in salt. Maybe there was an accident in the kitchen, or perhaps the chef got distracted and salted them twice. We switched with less salty chips from a different plate. (From someone in our family, in case you’re worried we stole them from an adjoining table.)Chicken wings, sausages and regular burger all good.Pudding a big disappointment. I was keen to try the waffle with strawberries and ice cream. The strawberries were...one strawberry. Just one. It was perfectly ripe, placed decoratively on top, but really? One strawberry is a garnish, not ‘strawberries.’ The ice cream wasn’t vanilla (had assumed it would be). It was salted caramel (they like salt here). Would have been better if that had been mentioned in the menu (or by the waitress). The waffle however was warm and fresh and perfect.

Second time at the Peacock Inn for Sunday dinner since lockdown restrictions were eased and a really excellent experience on both occasions. The food is excellent and the staff were brilliant from the management down to the waiting staff (a big shout out to Mason who did most of our table service and was very courteous and extremely good at the job). There are excellent Covid secure arrangements around the whole place and you are made to feel very at ease. There is a great outdoor covered area with high level mounted heaters which you can put on and off at your leisure if you prefer to eat outside, but indoors also seems to be just as good an option (although we ate outside). All highly recommended !!!
