Superb food, nice atmosphere and lovely hard-working staff. The later evening as singer/musician was very good too. Recommended. Clay Cross is really picking itself up as Chesterfield fails!

Wanted to pop over for breakfast and called ahead to see if they would serve breakfast 5 mins after the menu changed from breakfast to lunch. Even if they started to cook during breakfast time and I paid there and then. Wouldn’t accommodate. Felt it was a reasonable request. Poor service in my view.

Called for lunch today 11 May. An old world type homely pub, I had lambs liver my pall had stew in a yorki pud. Huge meals, served by "Donna". Excellant atmosphere, we were made very welcome by Donna a thoroughly enjoyable interlude, thank you. You made our day xx.

What a little gem. Great food and drinks. Had the two meals for £14 lunchtime special and it was delicious. Highly recommended.

Update review,not been before lockdown,the food standards are better than ever.Excellent service,very clean,very reasonable price for the size and quality of the portions,overall one of the best pubs in Derbyshire to go for a bite to eat,brilliant.

arrived 1:15pm after hiking at around Clay Cross on thursday. the pub was almost full. there was lunch special menu, two meals for £14 and normal menu.we had mixed grill, rump steak and lamb shank. they were ok. the vegetable in lamb shank was come in separated bowl.

Fantastic home-cooked style food, great portions and unbelievable prices. You wouldn't feel hard done by if you'd paid half again! Will definitely be back soon for some more.

Superb food with an outstanding mixed grill full of perfectly cooked meat and crispy onion rings. Always a friendly welcome to both the humans and doggies that visit. Well recommended
