Having frequented this establishment many many times before lockdown began I was never dissapointed.I returned this evening to be served cod and chips & sausage and chips .It was absolutely disgusting the chips were fried too quickly so they were hard and just tasted awful. The cod was so small & flat most of all soggy and definitely not fried fresh to order .Staff shortages maybe? No the place was packed with staff.Standards have gone ,prices have risen but saddest of all food unedible. Please bring back whoever it was that kept the standards high or remove the sign and sell pizza instead.

Amazing place to eat. Excellent service. Very good sized portions. I would give recommend both the eat in restaurant or the take away service

Fish was really tasty and very filling. Excellent menu with a range of items to choose from including drinks. The restaurants own 'Scale Ale' was a great along side the fish. It was not busy when we went with plenty of tables. Staff serving were very friendly and attentive, checking back that everything was OK after receiving the food. Good attention to detail with restaurant theme from lobster pot lights to octopus wine bucket. Just adds to the experience of eating there.

Been going to Cod Scallops for years and on the whole their fish and chips have been pretty good.Today!Different story.Just had fish and chips and very disappointed to say I'd payed £9.70 for them!Fish batter soggy and fish undercooked.Chips...as dry as the Sahara desert and as tough as John Wayne.I was hungry and managed to eat some chips and the fish we cooked a bit longer ourselves then gave it to our cats.Noticed again that when the big fella who runs it isn't there...standards drop.Chips had obviously been reheated from the night before. As hard as bullets lol.Note!Gave the fish and chips shop another go on Thursday 😁What a difference!Fish and chips and mushy peas were absolutely spot on and delicious 😊.So they've earned another two stars!

Have heard nothing but praise from friends. However i found the food pretty average and given the expensive cost, sadly I wouldn't class it as value for money when numerous "generic" chip shops do it better for a lot less.A decent niche chip shop though if you're one of these strange people who prefers that over value for money.

Have had very nice meals & ones not as good but that’s just personal preference rather than any meal being bad. This time I had cod & herb fishcake, chips, baked beans & cheese. Good selection of dishes available. It is quite expensive though. I’ve eaten from many upmarket fish & chips takeaways including Rick Stein’s & various London well-rated ones & The Cod’s Scallops pitches itself at the same Market with its prices, which I’m not sure is fair/justified, but if those are the prices people (including myself) are okay with paying then that’s okay.

I have been here before and it was great hence the re-visit. Fish ok but on the small side, chips too well done and abundance of crunchy chards, tasted starchy with packet of crisp experience. Edible but not satisfied, wouldn’t have accepted it on a dine in!

Wanted to try this since it's been rated so highly by everyone.I never write reviews but I paid an eye watering £17 for fish and chips, over £10 more than I would ever pay at a normal fish and chip shop. Not sure how they managed to make fish and chips taste BAD. The fish was oily and salty, and the chips were bog standard. Not sure why it's got its rep, I'm hearing it might be due to oil changes, who knows, but they need to lower the price right down. Save your money and go to a chip shop near you, I guarantee you it'll taste way better.

Have been meaning to visit here for a long time so happy to say it was worth the wait! The restaurant is nice and light and really clean and tidy, quality sea themed decor throughout but not cheesy, I like it.Our waitress welcomed us in and to the table, she was friendly and helpful throughout our visit. The food was excellent, really see why this place won the UK fish and chip shop award, just on another level. I had the lunchtime special and the black pudding fritter, wow, I thought I'd not ordered enough when it arrived but it's plenty of food for sure. They've got a few ales in bottles but would be nice if they had some decent beer, even if it was just a peroni or something.Loved it, highly recommended.
