Sensational. Food was superb. Matching wines were amazing. Faultless service. Lovely atmosphere. Josh (the sommelier) was a delight.

·

Amazing diverse food, with twists and turns in every mouth full. An absolute master class in flavour and produce combinations.... not a single course disappointed from a 7 dish tasting menu.

Utterly disappointed!!!!! As a family we have been to this wonderful restaurant for the last seven years. Shocking how things change. Always adored John’s flavours. What is happening??? Is he no longer there ?? Awful. Went recently, only tasted marmite gloop ? Oyster……….what?? Only cucumber. To top off the dreadful experience….. beef rib, sinew on all three plates. Tell the staff, no compassion, no comment?? Broken crockery, handle missing on hot plate. No response?? What an expensive disaster. Won’t be spending that amount of money for an experience of such a shockingly over priced awful evening, when we can keep a hard working local pub with a high standard of food going for several weeks Good bye John’s House!!!

Excellent gluten free food and service. Best meal I’ve had for ages. Will def go back! Loved every minute.

Made a pilgrimage to enjoy, had the five course tasting menu and wine flights (having strategically booked into an AirBnB minutes walk away!). Amazing cocktails and lovely to have them in a downstairs lounge with some exquisite amuses-bouche. Tasting menu amazing, wines a wonderful and adventurous match. My one recommendation is to provide smaller amounts of wine in the wine flights, perhaps 4oz glasses... as the temptation to drink all of their generous pours was strong and was quite a lot by the end !

We came here about 3 weeks ago, as the lockdown slowly eased. We were pleased with the precautions and safety measures put in place. A hand sanitizer was made available in the entrance, and staff also wore visors. None of those took away from the lovely atmosphere of the place and the staff were all very welcoming. We went for the taster menu with wine flight and weren't disappointed at all. We also had a cocktail to start with. The food was excellent with the first four dishes out if this world. While the final 3 were were very good, they didn't quite hit the levels of the first four. The mackerel dish and Tom's potatoes were our favourites. Each wine pairing suited the dish well also.I'd highly recommend this place for a special treat. In total for two people who had a cocktail each, 7 course taster with wine pairing and tea/coffee, the bill came to £300. For the service and quality of food, I'm sure I'll be returning again for another special occasion.

We have visited John's House a lot over the years and we have never been disappointed by it. By far our favourite restaurant, the service is attentive but not overly so, the food and textures are just phenomenal and unlike some Michelin star restaurants, it has such a homely and comfortable feel. The taster menu is worth splashing out on, although the 3 course lunch menu is also amazing and we do flit between the two.The staff are knowledgeable and the wine recommendations are always great! Perfect for a special occasion, I just wish we lived a little closer.

Wow. What an absolute treat. Great venue, such lovely comfortable surroundings. Nicely attentive, friendly staff. And then of course the food. Heaven, from the first taste explosion as we sat waiting to go to our table with our drinks. Through to the last mouthful of - which do I choose first - chocolates and sweets to go with the coffee. Excellent paired wine suggestions. One very happy customer.
