Dating back to the 1500’s, the building has been completely restored and is now a beautiful pub packed full of character, very reflective of its surroundings in the county of Rutland. Place was pretty in the corner of market Square. Sadly short staffed but still went out of their way to accommodate us with food. Manager and staff were so friendly to us and importantly our doggo. Lots of friendly pups there, fresh water for them too. All in all great food, amazing service and lovely little beer garden hidden at the back. Food a little pricey but good quality all the sameThanks Mathew and team for a great visit

We had a fabulous night celebrating my daughters 18th birthday, the food was excellent, the service was brilliant, nothing was to much trouble for the staff, they worked really hard to give us the perfect evening. We expected the pub to be half empty as it was a Tuesday night but the place was buzzing, which obviously goes to show what a popular place it is.

We were in Oakham for a Rugby game and didn't have a clue where to go. We found this place purely by accident (it looks like it's out of a Dickensian novel). What can I say? It was great. Service was brilliant...even correcting a mistake that I think was our fault entirely. The food was amazing. The breads fantastic. The roasts and the accompanying veg superb - beef was fantastic, but wife said chicken was the best she had. The desserts were superb too. I can't fault the place and would recommend it to anyone visiting the town.

Turned up on a Saturday evening with no booking. The staff were very accommodating and friendly throughout, they rearranged their reservations so that we could sit downstairs (my mum is disabled and we had a pram with us). Everyones food was exceptionally good, piping hot and great portions. Nice collection of real ales to choose from too. We were very pleased with our visit.

Went for a Sunday roast last weekend. The food was excellent and the pub has a great atmosphere. Also appreciated the attentive and generous service - e.g. accommodating my father in law's request for golden syrup to pour in his Yorkshire pudding!

Fantastic pub, the best pizzas! We've been coming to this pub for years and it's always been spot on. Delicious food; friendly, attentive staff; and a great drinks range. Our fave pub in Rutland.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch, serving through the day till early evening... perfect, so we thought! Got there at 3.15 to be seated, we were told they had already ran our of 2 of the 3 meats! Still trying to make the most of it, we decided on taking the third meat option to be then told they only had 1 portion left of that too!!Surely you should have enough meat for the Sunday roasts, you offer for the booking you take and till the end of service.

Incredible experience, service on tap. Amy Brown led our table and was exceptional. Keep up the great service everyone, we will return xx

A lovely pub in the centre of the market town of Oakham. The pub is bigger than one thinks; my friends and I found little rooms both downstairs and upstairs. A building with lots of character. The food was very good. I had the fillet of cod with wilted spinach and risotto. Lovely, though they could be a little more generous with the portions. But pizza lovers will not be disappointed; they're HUGE- the pizzas, not the lovers!Seems quite a popular pub - it was Saturday evening- so worthwhile booking. Enjoy.

A fleeting visit as we had very little time for lunch and had only found the Lord Nelson at the last minute. Great pot of tea and lovely bar staff... Thankyou for the mini flapjacks girls! Beautiful pub.. Historic. Spacious. Lovely atmosphere. Loved the flagstones!
