The Mill Wheel in South Derbyshire

Just been for mothers day Sunday lunch. The team were brilliant, professional friendly service. Couldn't do enough for us, always smiling even though they were so busy. The team even went out of their way to provide and cook separate vegan menu. I had moving mountains burger and vegan brownie, both were lovely. Mum had the carvery which was all fresh and she really enjoyed it. We will start making regular visits. 😍

The food was good and the service was good BUT I think they need some training in dietary requirements. Despite informing them at the time of booking that one person was gluten free, we were not offered a gluten free menu, the main menu had no markings to identify gluten free. We enquired and the waiter had to go and check which items were gluten free. We were informed that the soup was, so we ordered it, it came with two thick slices of bread on the side and croutons in the soup. Our daughter is only gluten intolerant but a true coeliac could have suffered badly.

Nice atmosphere.. food ok.. 2 of the 4 meals were spot on. Gourmet burgers looked and tasted as if very processed, not really as you’d expect as per menu description. Staff were nice but bizarrely no one approached after clearing away our main meal to offer desert. We were almost sat next to the bar area too.. not hidden away. We sat and waited for 20mins before we actually realised we’d not been approached. At this point we just asked for the bill.. Don’t get me wrong.. friendly folk.. just felt oversubscribed on the night and attention was lacking as a result

Fabulous food great service. Very cosy atmosphere and the staff were brilliant. Little bit pricey for pub food but the quality of the food is second to none. Only place I know that does home cut and cooked chips. All the desserts were homemade also the starters were beautifully presented and tasted great. Had a little bit of a long wait for one of the starters but wasn't disappointed when it did arrive. Definitely recommend this place for a nice meal out for a special treat.

Very busy pub/restaurant. Nice freshly cooked meal, good value for money. Waitresses very efficient/ welcoming The children's portions are very generous, my 3 year old couldn't finish his!!!

Just had a meal with 16 others, food was good, unfortunately service was under prepared, slow and unhygienic.No soup spoons on the table for starters, had a lengthy wait for a waitress to bring some out, after all the starters had been presented, for her to hand them to you while holding the head of the spoon! During a health pandemic this put me off.A similar thing occurred prior to starting the main course, had to wait to be given cutlery.Also outside the entrance, what I assume is the smoking area, you have to walk past a bin overflowing with litter and the ashtray above it overflowing with cigarette ends, not a pleasant first impression.This was my first time eating here, I will not be returning, shame really as I often pass and think - I'd like to go there'.

Had drinks and meal. Other half had chicken dish with chips , said quite nice. I had salmon with crushed potatoes and veg. Salmon was ok, dry and not very tasty, the veg, peas,carrots broccoli andasparagus stalks were covered in oil, crushed potatoes was a strange mound of greasy potatoes with onion and something greyish green, when forking through found a couple of small whole potatoes inside? Waitress very politely said it was how it was cooked, the sauce and a honey glaze ? I've had this before and it was completely different, not sure why. Was refunded drinks as compensation, a coke and a tonic.

Visited on a Sunday for a family meal. Had a nice Roast Beef lunch and home made desert. The portions were massive and if anything slightly too large for the plate making it difficult to eat at the start. A little bit quiet upstairs when we first arrived but got very busy around 2pm. Service was excellent.

I visited The Mill Wheel on July 14 at the suggestion from my Sister. Absolutely fantastic experience. I started with the gambas pil pil prawns, with the ale battered haddock, and a side of seasoned vegetables. My associate had the supremely veggie pizza, and we both had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The food was perfect on all levels. The service was first class. We were greeted by a beautiful young lady, Harriet I believe, who was able to explain and suggest dishes to try. Her attentiveness, knowledge and attitude were the highlight of our evening. Awesome drinks too! An overall exceptional experience and we will be back! The best food and service in East Midlands , hands down!

Delicious food. Friendly service. And a fantastic setting. The piece de resistance has to be there's an actual Mill Wheel with actual water making it actually turn. And the rest of the place looks great too.
