Claret Jug in South Kesteven

The food is excellent and great value for money. The service was very slow. Half an hour for drinks to arrive, the water from that drinks order did not arrive. We went to the bar for our next drinks as there wasn't enough waiters. The meal took close to an hour and the side of chips arrived towards the end of the meal.

Campervan stay and diner/breakfast. Great pub with attached campervan/motor home area. Quiet surrounded by beautiful Derbyshire countryside and a short distance from Chatsworth House, and Bakewell / Matlock.

Initially, we were impressed. We were shown to our table, drinks were ordered which arrived promptly and then our food order was taken. Food arrived in reasonable time & was of good quality. From then on, service went downhill. We were not asked if we needed to order pudding, drinks or coffee. To cap it off, last orders were called at 9:30 & we were asked to pay our bill promptly.Not amused.The next day was no better. They couldn't get the drinks order correct, food wasn't what we ordered & at 9 o clock we were the only people in the place. Made to feel very uncomfortable, so much so that we left. We will never return here.

From ordering to delivery of our food took too long, about an hour. We had to ask at the bar to check our order. When it came one meal had a hair in the sauce and under the chicken. It was replaced quickly and we had a part refund. Also, the steak meal was not hot and the steak had not been rested as light bloody fluid was on the plate. Overall not a good experience.

We have been going for years and years,staying in the campsite.Food has always been exceptional.We have recommended it to numerous friends and neighbours.We went for two night recently,free as we ended up in middle of delinquent middle-age idiots last year. So thanks for that.Booked meals for both nightsUnfortunately prices have gone up and quality has gone down.So much so that we cancelled second nightNo one asked if all was ok.Such a shame as this used to be so good. I also spoke to several locals who all said reputation has gone down. And people avoid it.We will go again but will take a takeaway next time.

Came here for my graduation meal. Everyone enjoyed the food. It was absolutely amazing. Service was excellent and quick.No issues will definitely dine here again

Had a nice meal last night, although they were very short staffed, we were pre warned, so when the food came before the drinks, we understood. Olivia who was working the floor was amazing, she did her best under the circumstances.The food was great and good value.Wish we could have chatted more to the staff to enhance the atmosphere.

We stayed here for 2 nights late January and its location is ideal for a quite nights stay. Very pretty area, next door to small shopping village and a nature reserve on one side. A lovely sounding river on the other side and a camp site behind. The pub itself is nice, staff are lovely and the food is ok too. No real issues. The room was ok too. Nothing special or luxurious but it's clean and tidy with all WE need in it. Recommended if your in the area. The pics are 2 from the room and 2 of the grounds of the Inn.

Food was absolutely lovely! We took the fish and chips, the cod loin with rarebit sauce, bacon and veg, the apple and raspberry tart and the cookie & cream slice. Price is right for the quality of food.

Decent pub food was spot on. We had two dinners and one breakfast there (staying at their camping site). Service was a bit slow the first night but absolutely fine the second night.
