The Food was 1st class, best steak I've had in a long time, good beer and excellent service, All the staff were lovely, friendly and attentive, we stayed in the travel lodge up the road and walked the 1 mile to the pub, next time we are back in the area we will definitely be coming back and this time book to stay too. Honestly superb food.

Great food and great service for me, my father and my sister. Fantastic and attentive service from the owner who couldn't have done more for us. He brought us menus, found us a nice quiet corner and brought all 3 courses out on time. The car park is very sizeable and even has a charging point for electric cars (one charging point). Will definitely be back 😊

We went on a Tuesday lunch time for lunch. A good menu and two real ales available. The service and food was very good. Plenty of parking available.

As we approached, on foot after walking the best part of 16 miles that day (58 over three days), we were a little concerned. However, as the saying goes, " never judge a pub by it's cover"😁It's a proper pub, with, for us, the benefit of a restaurant and rooms. We were greeted and shown to our rooms, which were clean and more than adequate for our needs. After spending the afternoon at the Pool Table and sampling a few of the local ales, we headed to the restaurant. Two carnivores and a veggie were not disappointed. The food was very good, as was the service. There was a great atmosphere in the bar area. Breakfast the following morning was at 7.30. (We were asked what time we'd like to eat - between 7 & 9.30 - which was pleasing, considering where we'd stayed the night before wanted us to have breakfast at 10.30!!). Two full English and a veggie full English later ( after cereals, juice and toast), we were fully set up for our last days hike of 15 miles. Excellent value for money.

Such a beautiful old fashioned pub/B&B. Stayed before visiting relatives and always made to feel so welcome by all.The village takes me back to mychildhood days, such fond memories.Looking forward to our next visit.

Saw a sign on the A1 for pub drove a mile to it.What a great find such friendly staff and a great lunch.The pub ihas so many quiky rooms.We coming back in February to see the dog ghost.Highly recommend this pub

Good service, food and price. Rooms are in a bad state of repair they really needs closing and completelyrevamping, old and just not welcoming from as soon as you park up. Doors all peeling, dirty walls and a bathroom that should be condemned.Patio area needs complete power wash to remove cigarette butt's and food that has spilled.Real shame for our first time this end of the country in years.

On the, Services-starved, A1, this Pub which is sign-posted from the main road and only a mile or so off it, offers the Northbound diner an ideal pit-stop. With a warm, friendly welcome and an excellent Sunday carvery it is our go to place en route home to Leeds whenever visiting family in London. I am confident that dining on other days will be every bit as good.
