Great Western Arms in South Northamptonshire

Good selection of local ales (Hooky etc) and it's nicely presented with ample seating out in the courtyard with heaters/chimeras when it gets chilly.Didn't eat here. The menu is very over priced and whilst the food maybe good quality, almost £30 for a steak is way over the top for a canalside pub.Shame.

5***** Ate here twice in last 2 weeks and both the food and service have been outstanding. Really nice atmosphere and great staff - nothing too much bother for Robbie. Exceptionally tasty food and excellent Sunday lunch. Can't wait to come back.

Visited the GWA for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. Food was very good and complimented with excellent service. Roast pork and beef was very tasty. This alone warrants five stars. However, I have only given four stars as a family who arrived took it upon themselves to close the curtains in the room and consequently we, and other diners, were deprived of lovely sunlight and pretty much had to eat by candle light. (Okay, it wasn't dark, but light was significantly restricted) It's a shame that this wasn't addressed by staff.

A lovely olde world pub, a wonderful restaurant with a beautiful outside seating area. There is a traditional menu with delicious home cooked meals. The Landlord Rob is truly dedicated as is all the staff...it is a well run Public house, which is immaculately clean...and friendly.The Great Western is set by a canal and Old railway junction.

Lovely traditional pub absolutely brilliant cellar. Stunning food and service. You will regret not calling in.

Literally the best Roast I have ever had outside my own kitchen.Staff are so friendly and glad I’m not local otherwise I would spend all my money here!!

Walk in meal, but, despite being very busy we were found a table. The service was excellent and attentive. The meal arrived more quickly than we had expected given a nearly full restaurant. The food was, as ever, of high quality well presented and a little unique in content. The chef always manages to go beyond the ordinary and lift the taste buds. Well done thank you !

We had a takeaway meal from here last Thursday evening. The food was superb and still piping hot when we got back to the boat. Very friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Treated badlyWe made a reservation (on Thursday with a man at the pub (phone)) for Sunday lunch, we were really looking forward to a relaxing lunch, wine etc. It was howling with wind and rain so definitely a day for a cosy table for two. We were told (after being ignored by the barman wearing reading glasses) that he couldn't find our reservation and couldn't understand what we we were saying, our names...After many people trying to find our reservation we were told by the owner that they didn't take a reservation and we must have made a mistake.We definitely made the reservation, we all know that mistakes happen and that's life but to make us feel like we were wrong and we had perhaps phoned the wrong place (or just showed up...) and to offer us no drink, try and squeeze us in and then tell us as we are leaving 'have a nice day' left us with a very bad taste in our mouths.We live in the village and I will never darken their door again.

This pub was an unexpected delight to come across! We were searching for a suitable place for dinner in the area with out infant and the staff here were incredibly accommodating, the food delicious and the atmosphere a delight to be in. Spent a good couple of hours and our journey was all the better for our visit. Great local beers on tap too. We will be back!
