This is a proper gem of a place. Real fish and chips cooked in beef dripping for the best tasting chips

Fabulous. We happened to be in a local B&B on Friday night when this place was open. The fish & chips were just awesome. It's a small place which allows one person in at a time so expect to queue outside but trust me it's worth the wait

Best fish and chips that i have had, cooked on a coalfired range from 1948, listed in good food guide, only open for 8 hrs aweek,

This fish and chip shop is well worthy of the 5 stars. Traditionally cooked using coal fired heat, beef dripping, we were visiting the area, and were glad we spent the 30 minutes in a long queue as we were not disappointed. The ladies behind the counter were a delight to talk to, once we finally got to the front of the line. I believe this is one popular place

Wow,was taken here by a friend who wanted me 2 experience what they had ,and glad they did ,there is always a cue ,bit for a reason ,the fish n chips are delicious, cooked in beef dripping gives them extra flavour and leaves no nasty greasy taste left in ur mouth like normal chippies the fish has flavour ,nothing is greasy ,the price is reasonable for the quality of flavour and its all cooked on a coal fryer ,open 5:30-9 pm Friday and 11:30am-1:30pm on Saturday ,experience it ,u won't be sorry x

The best chips in the world. You'll queue a very long time but that's all part of the fun. Prepare to get a little soot land on your shoulders.

For anyone not giving this place a good review you must have only been brought up with how 'bog standard' chippies cook their food. This place is an absolute gem , fish and chips cooked the proper old fashioned way. They are absolutely fabulous. We used to have a local old family chippy called James's who cooked them very similar to Upton's and the queue used to be very long, but it closed over 35 years ago when the owner passed on. This one brings happy memories of how fish and chips should taste.

Happened upon this place by accident, I noticed the queue first then the old Fish & Chips sign. I joined the line of people as I was hungry and ready for something to eat, I was not disappointed, this is a gem of a place and the best fish and chips I’ve ever tasted, even better than the seaside. The frying range inside is a beautiful work of art in itself and still fuelled on coal. It’s such a shame I’m not local, but I’ll make sure of a return when back in the Gainsborough area. Well done on keeping the traditional alive.
