The Dukes Head in Basildon

It's been a lot better in the past. Not saying it was bad, just been better. The Kofta starter was warm, not hot and was IMO just reheated. The "Billionaire fries" at nearly £5 were frozen fries (obvs) with some truffle oil and a smidge of parmesan. Pretentious nonsense if you ask me. Waitress was very good but seemed to be overworked. 4 stars reflecting not great but good and above average which is 3.

Great restaurant. Lovely food that was served on time and with a smile and efficiency. Little bit dark by our table and had to shine my mobile phone torch on my dad's menu for him, but a very minor gripe. Celebrated daughters birthday and staff were very accommodating and cheerful. Would highly recommend. Thank you.

Recently visited the Dukes Head for afternoon Sunday lunch, was a large group of us, very impressed with the service and quality of food. We made a few changes to our orders along the way and staff handled everything promptly and accurately. Also like the restaurant ambiance and setting. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Very mixed feelings about this place.No separate allergy menu. Was just given an Ipad to search every dish to see what you could eat.A bottle of wine was Very expensive. It was nice but there's no cheaper options really.Starter was lovelyThe empty starter plates were not collected. The main meal arrived and was placed prior to them being taken.Again the food was nice however the tomato half was bigger than the steak and for £27 it was disgraceful. A chip was bigger too!We had come out to destress so didn't want the palaver of sending it back.

Food really superb and portions just fine (on the small side but surprisingly filling). Cleanest tableware, which is brilliant. Beautiful decor of the restaurant main room. I wondered if there were beams I saw on the ceiling - they were painted to give the room a more modern and brighter look(?)The only downside - sorry, but this is important(!) - you should consider refurbishing the toilets (replace the flooring, skirting etc with proper tiling to enable easier cleaning and greater cleanliness).I will definitely recommend your place for excellent dining, though. Pricing: not cheap but worth it thanks to high quality and tasteful dishes executed with great care!

Very well staffed and very nice.Sunday lunch was very poor. My dinner turned up while I was still eating my starter.Our roast dinner had clearly been heated up, everything was pretty soggy and swimming in gravy.We will not be recommending.

My girlfriend and I went to here for dinner and we absolutely loved it! Its not the typical pub, id say its much better (and cleaner)! The service is amazing! Peggy the lady that took care of us gave us a service worth more than 5 stars! The food was delicious, we both ordered the cheeseburgers and they were on point! Juice, tasty and proper meat!

Had a lovely meal there last night and we were served by Michelle who was very attentive and helpful. Atmosphere very good too.My only criticism is that we all ordered the lamb rack to share and thought the portion size very small for the money. Maybe another veg would be an option? .We had deserts but went home feeling hungry and as a main course for £20 a head, we were disappointed but what we had was very nice.

Great and friendly service. Had the fish and chips and the ribeye steak. Food was really good, especially the ribeye, but fish could have had a bit more flavour.

The 4 of us had an excellent meal there which we all enjoyed. The staff, the atmosphere, the menu and the food were all good. We had our cockerpoo under the table and she had no complaints either. We cheerfully recommend this place.
