La Fontana Pizzeria - Trattoria in Bedford

Visited La Fontana numerous times however was disappointed with the last visit. Two of us went for dinner last night, service was good to start however it took an hour for our mains to arrive from the time our starters were finished. I had to ask at the bar if our main was soon due out as we'd been waiting a long time. When they eventually brought the mains out, they'd forgot to bring out our side order of chips, and with no-one returning to ask how our meal was we'd not got the chance to follow up on the chips.When paying for the bill we went straight to the bar as we couldn't be bothered to wait any longer in the restaurant. The lady whom I'd early queried about our main was behind the bar, I'd explain how we had been before and was quite pleased on previous occasions but the service had been awful this time. I asked for the chips to be removed from the bill as they'd never arrived, to which she did. However to not receive an apology or a goodwill gesture means I will not be returning.We'd had a table next to us who'd also complain about the waiting around times and commented on how empty the restaurant was so we couldn't understand what the delay was.

Went here a few weeks ago with a couple of friends, and enjoyed so gave it a 4* rating, however the owner has questioned the genuineness of my review - which seems odd.

Although I can't fault the food which was great, the same cannot be said for the service. We were seated and our order was taken quickly, starters came out in a reasonable time but we had to wait for well over an hour for our main course. We asked once after half an hour of waiting and were told they were serving 2 tables upstairs then we were next. After another 20 minutes or so my friend asked again and was told it was just being plated up. Another 20 minutes, just as we'd decided to give up, pay for what we'd already had and go home to order a take-away, our food finally arrived. By this point I was tired, as I'd been working nights and just wanted to go home . At the end of our meal we went to the bar to pay and the lady apologised for the wait but we still paid full price which, I feel, is absolutely disgusting. We won't be coming again and we certainly won't be recommending to our friends!

Had a chicken pasta dish, pasta was borderline raw, chicken was chewy. My friend didn't enjoy her gnoccii dish. We were looking for authenticity but didn't get it. Disappointing.

Fantastic experience with Ben and his team. The food was excellent, they had attentive waiting staff and catered for a coeliac in our party. I would definitely recommend

Friday 17th December myself and three friends went to La Fontana as it is one of our favourite restaurants. We arrived at 7.30 and didn't leave until 11.00 due to having to wait for over an hour for our main course. No explanation was given but we did receive a free drink. We were all pleased with our food when we finally got it. We should have question about the wait but all we wanted to do was leave.

A wonderful evening out. Would recommend to all my friends and family, a beautifully family run paradise tucked away in Bedford away from the hustle & bustle. Italian dishes done right and wine flowed to top the evening off. Romantic, warm & friendly. Everything you want on a date night! Evening ended with a slippery nipple on the house!

We had a lovely experience at La Fontana. The waiter (young boy) really made our evening. He was charming, helpful and really made it his personal mission to make our evening as pleasant as possible. The Chef made himself known to us and was very helpful with splitting starters between 4 dishes etc. Things that you don’t expect from a restaurant but do really make a difference. The food was divine. I really liked the “mozzarella in Carozza” started and the sea food risotto was amazing! Overall a fantastic experience and I shall definitely be returning.
