The Embankment in Bedford

This is a restaurant with a great location, great staff and good food. Location wise, you're on the Embankment with spectacular views along the tree lined river. Indoors, the restaurant is beautifully decorated, and welcoming. We visited here for Mothers Day, and although the weather wasn't good, we enjoyed the front terrace under the heaters. Our waiter was excellent, attentive and enthusiastic. They have a good choice of wines, a great choice of food, and most of us chose from the specials board, which included a fab prawn cocktail, and chicken roast options (on the Sunday).Update: There was an issue with one of the meals, and I had posted a more negative review. But the owners reached out to me quickly to see if they could make things right. For my part, I appreciate that Mothers Day was an incredibly busy day for the restaurant and the staff who work there. On reflection, I've updated my review to 5 stars, as there is nowhere else in Bedford or the surrounding area that has The Embankment's combination of location, vista, service, menu and quality dining experience. The Embankment is a wonderful place to entertain family and friends. I'm pleased they reached out. Thank you.

Absolutely brilliant. Forst class service. Really attentive and engaging. The guy who served us, maybe the front of house manager was especially good. Knew the menu in detail and recommended essentially my whole meal. The food was superb. Shame it so far away from me! When I'm in Bedford next I'm coming straight back!

The service wasn't that great, background music was pretty loud. The waitors try to be cocky by not writing down your order this caused a massive problem as they missed off parts of the order for the starters and the mains. The waitress was more interested in talking to her froends than actually putting our order through the till. My father In Law had the Pie and the pastry was like concrete but other than that food was above average but definitely overpriced.

I booked a last minute 1 night break for my parents celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary and the whole experience of booking was straight forward. The team members were pleasant to deal with and helpful. My parents enjoyed their stay and got a chance to explore Bedford, thanks to the central location of the hotel. We also had family sunday lunch at the restaurant and overall was a positive experience. Such a child and dog friendly establishment and can’t wait to be back!

Attended a 50th birthday party in a private function room very nicely decorated staff was very friendly food was nice and well presented it was a busy night in the actual bar and restaurant we were a group of 20 and all was catered for or very efficiently

A tasty lunch made with quality ingredients, expertly cooked. My pork chop was thick and juicy and served on a bed of (thanksgiving-spiced) pumpkin which complimented it perfectly. I even had some fragments of crackling! It seems that the Embankment is always popular at weekends, but it wasn't crowded on our visit, thanks to the many rooms, and the service was good.

Although food was good, can't rate any higher as service was so slow. Not just our main course took over an hour, but dessert could not be delivered in less than 30 min. Parking so bad we couldn't wait as we had to return to car. Don't expect to be able to park at the pub because it so limited - we got caught with this

Nice location, and staff are friendly and efficient, but the food we had was pretty dire - it was only fish and chips, so what can go wrong, but the fish was cold and the batter pale and chewy - I guess just not cooked for long enough.

We recently had our wedding reception at the pub and we had a the best day. The service and food was amazing! Nothing was to much trouble for them. Our guests complimented us on choosing such a lovely venue, we had the perfect day! Special thanks to Sara and Lianne. Thank you so much 😊

I've had many friends comment that this is a great place to go - and they were not wrong!A great selection on the menu and it was all really tasty. The service was quick, the staff were really friendly and I couldn't have asked for a nicer place to go for dinner.Can't wait till next summer to go back and eat outside with a view of the river.
