Blue Anchor in Braintree

Been here a few times for food and it’s always been nice however our last experience wasn’t. We felt rushed, staff appeared unhappy, they were taking plates away while some of the table were still eating, steaks were over cooked and so were the chips. When we arrived there was an awful sewage smell which was coming into the restaurant which wasn’t nice. It’s a shame the standard is going down hill as it’s always been a popular place.

Food was fantastic. Room was nice and staff were welcoming. Bit of a faf having to pay on my phone on arrival and a bit of a sewerage smell at times

Been looking forward to eating here for some time, to be honest I personally found the whole experience disappointing. Would I go back? Very much doubt it.Food took just a few minutes short of an hour to arrive, cold plates, 4 lots of veg served in a very small bowl, my beef was very rare (not that I had a choice) saying that there were plenty of slices. 3 very small roast potatoes, I say small they didn't need cutting up to eat! Yorkshire pudding was huge and very nice.... had to wait 40 mins for one scoop of ice-cream.The area where I sat could do with a complete replacement seating area. The staff were polite and helpful, the only real thumbs up I'm giving for this place. Plenty of car parking across the road.

We could book on line or phone. The service was great and quick. Food well cooked Brought a birthday cake with us and they provided plates and forks

We had the 6 course taster meal which was delicious and very filling. The staff were extremely attentive without being in your face. The restaurant was older worlde with modern twists. Nice log burner kept us warm. I would highly recommend to anyone. Easy to park in large car park just opposite the restaurant.

Stopped for lunch, staff were welcoming and helpful. I had the corn fed chicken which was yummy, and the homemade orange cake and coconut ice cream was delish. Thought it was a little pricy, and maybe some simpler, cheaper sandwiches at lunch would be good. Having said that, would definitely come again and recommend to others. Thanks for a nice lunch! ☺️

Nice pub, decorated for Christmas, they have some gluten free options. Nice fire at one end but the draft through the window was bitter and the pub freezing cold. People were sitting eating with their coats on!If they sort the heat out it'll be lovely.

Lovely menu and setting. Food was delicious and couldn't fault it. Was a bit chilly where we sat, but didn't spoil our evening. Was probably just ensuring good ventilation! Would definitely go again. Service was great too.

An absolute gem! From check in to check out our stay here was a delight! The room was lovely, clean and comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant and the food was amazing and the service was second to none. The cleaning staff were so polite and friendly too. I really could not find anything to fault this place on. Thank you so much, we would most certainly recommend and return again 5! 🌟

First time visit, lovely setting, extremely helpful and pleasant staff most accommodating with our wishes. Good choice of food. Food was wonderfully cooked and not piled high but still enough. After our meal we were able to sit in courtyard area and have more drinks and coffees. Would certainly return. I did think the price of the wine was a bit to pricey.
