Awful.Attended for a quiet evening meal with partner after a hard day at work. Was very hungry and looking forward to a meal and drink. Thought I would have a change to the usual so went to The George. Wont be going back.Food was awful and after being told half the menu was not available I chose the cheese burger and skinny fries. Partner went for halloumi kebab.Food arrived promptly and the waitress was pleasant. However the burger was tiny and overcooked and had shrunk in an oversized cheap bun. Chips are chips. Nothing else served with it.So hungry I manage to eat the burger sipping my drink to make it easier to swallow but left the bun and some of the chips. I felt sorry for my partner and had to laugh at what got served. The couscous was so dry it was clumped together. The pitta bread broke apart and the half a plate of lettuce cucumber and chunky onion was not accompanied by any dressing. When asked for salad cream or mayonnaise they didn't have any having run out the previous say. My partner ate only the halloumi cheese with some cof the clumped ouscous which she had to marinate in sweet chilli sauce. The bar girl/waitress did not come out to check and when she did after we had had enough and asked how it was we politely told her. She was very sweet and we were non confrontational and suggested it was so bad we should not pay for it all. She went to get the manager who kept sending the poor girl back. She apologised for not checking on us and eventually told us she had been told that because we had eaten some of it and despite not checking how it was we had to pay for it. Whilst not obliged to pay for it I was too embarrassed to argue and create a scene so went in and did so. I may be wrong but assume the management where the ones sat at the bar drinking looking like customers when I walked in to pay and cut me a look. £32 for probably the worst meal I had ever had at a pub/restaurant with no apology or conversation with the management. When I went back outside I saw a lady and her partner speaking to my partner talking about their disappointment with the pub/restaurant. We supported this place during lockdown with takeaways and whilst they were not great it was takeaway so didn't expect much at the time. Will not be returning and do not recommend anyone else does. Surprised by the rating in this pub and makes me question if the reviews are genuine. However make up your own mind. Personally if looking for a local place I would go to The Lion or The Fox in Finchingfield. Its a shame as the pub/restaurant looks nice and has potential. They just need management with some customer service skills and a kitchen that can turn out some semi decent food to match the price. I hope anyone that goes has a better experience than I just did.

Visited last week since I heard there was new management and can i just say wow, they have given the place a breath of fresh air! From the professional bartenders to the amazing chefs behind the food and I got told they are still new at the pub so can't wait to see what else management have to show us!

I'm a local and appreciate how important it is to have a pub open in rural villages.our experiences last night wasn't very goodwe went out for a family meal but wished we had gone to McDonalds or KFC insteadwe waited 1 hr 45 mins for food to turn up, our 3 yrs was so tired he was falling asleep on my lap and once his food finally arrived he was to tired to eat it (that was a waste of money)I ordered rump steak Medium-rare but it came well over done, dry and tastelessthe pulled pork burger was very dry pork in a bum,the chicken burger wasn't much better either.i have no idea what oil is used in the deep fat fryer but it isn't very nice, my partner and myself where up gone 3 am with stomachache from the chips and chicken burger,My daughter had ham, eggs, chips this looked like the best meal to have and she enjoyed it (wish i had had it)The Manager did offer another meal at %50 but i'm afraid i don't think we will be eating here again for a while sorry!
