I booked a table at the restaurant for my partners birthday (having never visited before) based on the website description, photos, and online reviews. We were shown to a table near the window in the restaurant, the waiter took our drinks order, and we were left alone to look at the menu. Our first impression was the restaurant was drab, dull, uninviting, and cold, with what appeared to be furniture storage area the end of the room. However I said to my partner "Let's hope the food is okay."Soon after the waiter brought our drinks, and after telling us our first choices were unfortunately not available and choosing again he took our order.Whilst waiting and looking around at our surroundings we decided to have a look in the bar area. It wasn't full of drinkers so we told the female staff member that we wished to move tables from the restaurant to the bar which appeared a little cosier. She said "Sit anywhere you like. I only only put you in the restaurant because that's what you asked for."Soon afterwards our food arrived and we were immediately disappointed. I had 'Soup of the day' which was spicy tomato with chunks of soggy bread floating in it which I can only assume were meant to be croutons, with a very large soft bap roll & butter. My partner had ordered the 'Pea Squash & Pine Nut Risotto' which was served with a very tired looking mixed salad on the side. The meal was bland and tasteless and needed seasoning, and where was the pine nuts and squash? We noticed there was no salt & pepper on the table so we pressed the call button to summon the waiter. When he arrived I mentioned the limp salad 'garnish' (which I assume was there to make the dish look more appealing -but in fact spoiled it further) and he agreed it did look bad, and he agreed to take it back to the kitchen and change it.The waiter didn't actually take it away so we assumed he was just going to get another one.Moments later however an angry chef appeared saying "What's wrong with it!?"Were were shocked by his attitude and the way he spoke to us. He was intimidating and unapologetic. We showed him the dish and he argued there was 'nothing wrong with it' and it was fresh that day. !?He then spoke abruptly in an aggressive tone saying "I'll take it off because you don't pay for it anyway" which upset my partner making me angry. We decided at that moment that we were leaving and informed the bar staff member. We were told there will be no charge and we left. The whole experience was extremely distressing for my partner and ruined her birthday. The chefs attitude was despicable and totally unacceptable. After leaving it was too late to go anywhere and we ended up with a takeaway.

Unwelcoming frontage with a large marquee and tatty car park blocking the view to an attractive pub. Staff were welcoming and attentive. Sunday roast was average.

We stayed here for a night whilst we were walking the Peddars Way and it was lovely. The food in the pub for dinner was so good and a great price; we left feeling absolutely stuffed!! The room was nice, very spacious and there was a very comfy bed with good pillows 🙂 Considering how big the room was, the bathroom could have been a bit bigger. With that in mind, it still had everything you needed.Breakfast the next day was brilliant and was really delicious. Staff service throughout our stay was really good and we would definitely recommend it.

Had a lovely meal in the marquee very warm and nice surroundings . Nice staff but not enough of them....they seemed rushed even though it wasn't that busy . Although it didn't effect our food will go back to try more off the menu 😋

Stayed overnight. Nice and clean with excellent breakfast facilities included in room. Ate dinner in their marquee and we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food! I had prawns and crayfish followed by calves liver and my husband enjoyed whitebait followed by rabbit pie. Hats off to their chef! All the staff were really helpful and friendly.

Had a wonderful evening, thank you.The food was wow, wow wow. Starters chicken satay with peanut sauce, main, loin of pork with crackling, mash, veg and onion gravy. Too full up so missed out on dessert.A must visit, we will definitely go again, chef classy. Great service, and a special touch that was lovely.
