After hearing good reviews about The Olde Windmill from various people we decided to try it for Sunday lunch. I have to say we were very disappointed. Admittedly we arrived early, meeting friends there the idea was to have a drink before eating. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we could either have a drink in the bar or go to our table, we decided to go to the table. Looking at the menu we all decided to have the roast, asked what meats were available and told only lamb. The Husband can't eat lamb, was told he could have lemon chicken with the Sunday roast veg etc. It's the first place we've been to with only one meat on offer and lamb is not to everybody's taste. The service was very slow, it took a very long time between courses, the food was ok, the meat very fatty, as lamb can be, cauliflower in the cheese sauce was difficult to cut and sauce strong, the gravy watery and no flavour. We were told there was half an hour wait for food as they had 2 large groups in but it took over 2 hours for us to have 2 courses!! We didn't have desert but saw some sundae go out that looked nice. Maybe we chose a bad day to go but it certainly wasn't as good as we had been lead to believe and wouldn't be in a rush to go back, which is a sham as it's a beautiful old pub with loads of character.

So lovely! Been meaning to go since moving to the area a year ago. Beautiful location, fantastic building, great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff... Amazing food and to top it all off... Doggy friendly so our little monsters were able to come in and sit under the table, waiting for scraps. Will definitely be back again!
